Question about 1987 Buick Century

1 Answer

I have a 1986 Buick Century Limited Edition and the other day it was running fine and I stepped on the gas and I heard a huge backfire from it and now I have no muffler. It did this numerous times while driving. I would step on the gas and it would sputter and backfire and then die. Is this the timing gear or the distributor?

Why my 2003 buick century runs fine for a couple days then starts overheating ,

if opening the bleed screws lets air out and you do if often ,that indicates a failing head gasket and compression gas is getting into the cooling system
have a compression test done to check for head gasket /cracked head

My buick bucks and actually acts like it wants to stall but as soon as i let off the gas iabd press down again it runs fine

hello there you may want to try adjusting the idle set screw to bring the rpm up in the proper range or it could even be the float in the carburetor that could be sticking hope this helps you out sincerely D.Jones

Need to pull the codes to see if the throttle position sensor is the problem,or maybe low fuel pressure, have the fuel pressure checked to make sure.

Do I need to prime the engine after it has sat for more than a year. If so how do I go about this?It is a 1986 buick century limited with the 6cyl engine.

No you do not have to prime it. But you should change oil and put 5 gallons of fresh gas in it before starting. The oil collects moisture from sitting. The gas gets stale andding more will dilute old.
