SOURCE: i have a 1997 f350 turbo diesel and the water in

You have to drain the water out of the fuel tank. There should be instructions on how to do that in your owner's manual. The sensor is in the tank. Hope this helps.

Does a 2005 dodge diesel have a in-line fuel filter on the fuel line

Diesel injection equipment requires a high degree of precision to reliably work at such high pressures and give a long life and the fuel must have a similar high degree of precision. The fuel must be free of water and other contaminants and particles, therefore most diesel systems include a prefilter, a sedimenter and a very good main filter.
Heavy duty filtration can have a prefilter, at least two main filters and and two sedimenters.

A diesel system does have an inline filter but not in the typical way of petrol engines. The inline filter of a diesel is generally a fairly large replaceable element filter usually situated in the engine compartment, usually incorporates a sediment bowl and often includes a water detector and sometimes a heater.

How do i change the fuel filter on a 1992 Ford F 250 7.3 Liter diesel.

fuel filter problems come in slowly as in loss of power. It it just died and will not start I would be looking elsewhere for the problem. A good place to start would be the fault codes to check for cam/crank position sensor faults, immobiliser operation, timing belt condition. If you ran the fuel too low it may have air in the system that will have to be bled out. Best have an accredited diesel shop specialist look at it.

I have a 02 plate ford focus 1.8 turbo diesel which starts 97 percent of the time but the odd 3 percent it takes a few mins to start it any clues?

Water in fuel or fuel filter in diesels will do that. Try replacing the fuel filter and some dryer in your fuel. Water in diesel is a common problem, I drove a semi for 9 years and had to change filters a bunch.

How can water get to the diesel tank from the radiator reservoir?

there is no connection between the coolant reservoir and the diesel tank. However when running diesel fuel becomes hot from the return fuel from the injectors that is used to cool and lubricate the injectors. Diesel tanks are vented to the atmosphere and so condensation forms in the tank when it cools down. This accumulates and is picked up and goes to the filter ( should have a water separator in the system) Left untreated a moss grows in the fuel which blocks filters and injectors Use a diesel fuel conditioner to control the rubbish A method of controlling water in the tank that is used by all long distance operators is to fill to the top every time before shutting down for the night.

I own a 2008 dodge ram diesel 6.7 has a lightning symbol in the middle of this ) ( and a check gauges message when this comes on.

The indicator you see is call a water in fuel warning lamp. ==== This a very important warning and you will need to take corrective action ASAP. ==== As a diesel owner, you need to know diesel fuel can attract moisture. When condensation (water droplets) collect inside the fuel tank,it will contaminate the diesel. ==== The corrective action is to locate the drain **** on the fuel filter and CAREFULLY drain the water from the bottom of the filter housing. (with engine off / key out) ==== The water in fuel warning light will go off as soon as the water is drained. ==== Use one bottle of RED Iso-Heet to remove any additional water inside the fuel tank.mustgo_54.jpg

I have a 1984 Diesel Cutlass Seira Brogham (4 door) that has been in dry storage for many years. I've heard that some kind of bacteria forms in the diesel fuel when stored for long periods. How do I...

Bacteria is usually only a problem if you have water in the fuel. With the car sitting for many years it would be a good idea to drain out the old fuel because it's shelf life would have expired anyway. When you have it out of the car check the look of the fuel. If it appears cloudy and not clear there is water in it.Replace the fuel with new and replace the fuel filters.Biocide's should be available at the dealer or autoparts store and follow the instructions on the can. It would probably be a wiser idea to use the dealer here. Hope this helps.

WERE IS THE FUEL FILTER

A fuel filter is a filter in the fuel line that screens out dirt and rust particles from the fuel. They are normally made into cartridges containing a filter paper. They are found in most internal combustion engines.
Fuel filters serve a vital function in today's modern, tight-tolerance engine fuel systems. Unfiltered fuel may contain several kinds of contamination, for example paint chips and dirt that has been knocked into the tank while filling, or rust caused by moisture in a steel tank. If these substances are not removed before the fuel enters the system, they will cause rapid wear and failure of the fuel pump and injectors, due to the abrasive action of the particles on the high-precision components used in modern injection systems. Fuel filters also improve performance, as the fewer contaminants present in the fuel, the more efficiently it can be burnt.
Fuel filters need to be maintained at regular intervals. This is usually a case of simply disconnecting the filter from the fuel line and replacing it with a new one, although some specially designed filters can be cleaned and reused many times. If a filter is not replaced regularly it may become clogged with contaminants and cause a restriction in the fuel flow, causing an appreciable drop in engine performance as the engine struggles to draw enough fuel to continue running normally.
Some filters, especially found on diesel engines, are of a bowl-like design which collect water in the bottom (as water is more dense than diesel). The water can then be drained off by opening a valve in the bottom of the bowl and letting it run out, until the bowl contains only diesel. Many Fuel Filters contain a water sensor to signal to the ECU or directly to the driver (lamp on dashboard) if the water reach the warning level. It is especially undesirable for water to be drawn into a diesel engine fuel system, as the system relies on the diesel for lubrication of the moving parts, and if water gets into a moving part which requires constant lubrication (for example an injector valve), it will quickly cause overheating and unnecessary wear. This type of filter may also include a sensor, which will alert the operator when the filter needs to be drained. In the diesel fuel filter there is (usually) a fuel heater to avoid the paraffin (in case of lower temperature) inside the filtrating element which can stop the fuel flow to the engine.
