It is definitely the speed sensor assembly which hangs outside the transmission underneath the truck. Usually runs a little over $110

SOURCE: what is the wire color code for the tachometer on

Depends on cylinders 4 use black or 6 use gray wire

On the 4-Cylinder engine, the BLACK wire is in a GRAY CONNECTOR located on the COIL, drivers side of the engine.

On the V-6 engine, use the GRAY wire, located at the IGNITOR, located just in FRONT of the STRUT TOWER.

SOURCE: how do you replace a radiator on a 1992 toyota

drain all hoses and drain rad then unbolt it from the front grill and remove it you may have to also remove the cooling fan if it is attached to rad I do not believe it is if not just ignore that part if it has a transmission cooler line on bottom disconnect that as well but try to keep tranny oil from leaking out try putting a baggy over it with a rubber band to keep the fluid in when you remove it also do all this with a cold engine so you do not get burned

SOURCE: speedometer & tachometer barely moving on my 1992 toyota camry 4cyl

There are usually two to three transmission sensors on most vehicles
sounds like it may have gotten damaged possibly hitting something in the road. You could take it to Autozone they may be able to help you locate the bad sensor. Or call them.

Rpm needle flutuates when driving

If it is an aftermarket tachometer then you may have to install the resistor that came with it. If it didn't come with a resistor ask an auto-electrician about it, they should know. If it is a factory tachometer you may also be able to try and install the resistor onto coil wire at the back of the tachometer. if you haven't got experience in this area i would suggest you find someone who does.
