Didnt specify type of vehicle but generic answer should help ---check fluid level if low add as needed fix or repair leaks as necessary --pump may over heat check fluid is not burnt smelling --check belt for tightness if loose replace belt or tensioner ---if all good than internal pump damaged---if drive by wire check battery ,alternator, and elect connections

I had the same problem you need to replace the power steering motor, you can buy them for under 100 dollars on Ebay or at a salvage yard. Not very hard to do either.

SOURCE: lose power while driving
Hi. I had the same problem on my 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 Cummins. I went to the dealer and they did a bunch of diagnostics and they replaced my fuel pump. At the same time they put in a retrofit kit that moved the fuel pump to the inside of the gas tank. I have not had the problem since. The cost was about $1,200, but my 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty covered it and I had to pay the $100 deductible.
