I finally bolted up shifter on 2001 ford escort zx2 by loosening the shifter then bolting everything back tight when it lined up. was really tight and appears to be pushing shifter to the back end of car, replaced slave and clutch master cylinders and clutch still is barely off the bottom about half inch checked free travel and shorten it to abou 3/8 of an inch was about 3/4 inch pedal height appears good and even with brake pedal ?

Did u bleed slave cylinder? If not you must bleed just like you would bleed breaks.... you need to make sure you fill the master cylinder resvr too before attempting to bleed. If r his doesn't work post back with update.

Testimonial: "yes w/help bled slave cylinder twice to make sure....checked hose and lines for leaks, the flex line between brake master reservoir and clutch master cylinder looked ify but over a week to get new one. still not under pressure and did not appear to be leaking. ?????????"

SOURCE: replaced slave cylinder 2004 ford ranger 4x4 still no pedal

I had the same problem with my 1995 1500 p.u.. Assuming your clutch slave cylinder is the concentric style. If not disregard. I hate that set up. what the hell was wrong with the old outside of the bell housing slave/ mechanical style fork and throw out bearing bla bla? Its because ford as well of the rest of the lovely auto makers decided long ago to make them as hard as hell to repair on you own. Ive been told theres a spsecial tool just for this bleeding task. Pobably. They make those tools to sell to us so they can further profit from us poor suckers. Also I wonder on your model if its concentric, does it have the difficult sized bleeder valve as mine did? or have they gotten a little more user friendly? doubt it. In my case as this style is a closed system I followed the bleeding intructions to a tee. That did get alot more clutch action for me, after 15 attempts. However I do believe the problem after looking and further inspection under the dash? look up under the dash and inspect your pedal rack and frame. I found mine was cracked and the cause of poor aliegnment. check for that rite away. I located another rack but before I got around to replacing it, the tranny blew, and the trucks sitting on my dads property. Its still a danmed good truck and one of these days I will get on it again. Anyway up untill the tranny blew I was never able to get more than half the distance from the pedal and besides the rack problem I would love to know the bleeding anser, that is if Im off target. Going to be up against it again when I replace that transmission. Hope this helps a little. Food for thought maybe? If you find out something more helpful post it so I will know too.

SOURCE: My 98 Escort ZX2 manual transmisson seems to shift gear hard!

Clutch may be smooth but this is a sign of the clutch needing replaced. Some of these models have a linkage adjustment under the hood. Others are hydrallic and need fluid. Look under the hood where the steering is and see which you have and address accordingly. Good luck. Check on costs of clutch replacement.

SOURCE: 1997 ford escort brake line diagram

The LF and RR are in an independent circuit of the RF, LR wheels. The master cylinder already has the lines hooked up in a way that if you trace the lines, you can make your own diagram.

How do you replace a belt tensioner on a 2000 ford escort zx2?

There are 3 10mm bolts that hold the tensioner assembly to the motor. Remove these 3 bolts and the tensioner should come free from the motor.

Is a 2000 ford escort manual compatable with a 2001 ford escort zx2

All ZX2 transmissions will work no matter what year. If you are trying to use a sedan transmission, it is possible with some modification. The sedan transmission has one threaded hole for the starter that will need to be drilled out. There are, I think, three bolt holes for the bell housing that won't line up but that isn't a problem. Otherwise, it fits just fine. The gearing is taller in the sedan and you'll notice the car won't accelerate as fast but your gas mileage should get better.

How to change a water pump on a 2001 ford escort

The water pump is on the front (right side of car) of the engine block, visible with the hood up. NAPA autoparts replacement instructions are to loosen the belt drive pulley from the pump BEFORE removing the serpentine belt.

Once the four bolts are loose, take the belt off (good time to replace?) remove bolts and old water pump (four more bolts)- it will be tight, but it comes out- clean gasaket area and install new gaaket and pump in reverse order. That includes putting the pulley on and hand tightening the bolts, put on the belt, finish tightening the bolts to the pulley. Don't forget the antifreeze..

Need 2001 ford escort zx2 DOHC engine information, belt diagrams

The tensioner is between the a/c compressor and crank pulley, below the power steering pump. Use a 13 mm wrench to 'tighten' the bolt in the center of the pulley and it'll move to release tension off the belt.

How to fit a alternator belt on a 1.8 diesal escort van 51plate

This should be the same as a car, jack the front of the car up put stands under, remove front wheels, remove bottom cover (about 7 screws), Remove powersteering pump pully 3 bolts, remove and refit new belt and P/S pully, you might get away with not having to adjust alt but if you have to youll need a 13mm spanner to undo the locking bolt then pull the alt tight (its really tight u might need a bar), once all done replace in reverse order.

Instructions to change the brakes

look for 2 bolts or pins that go right thru the calipers, they actually retain the pads, normally the heads will be on the back side of the caliper. take them out, there may be thin metal clips (springy) on top of the pads. remove them too. slide out pads working the caliper back and forth to loosen them up. open up fluid resevoir then with a large screwdriver push the brake piston back so as to be able to get new pads it, bolt it all back and your are done.
