Question about 1995 Honda Civic

1 Answer

My daughter's 1990 Honda Civic occasionally will not start. It cranks fine, but it will not turn over. Usually, if she waits anywhere from 5-15 minutes, trying to start it every few minutes, it will crank and she will be fine, even if she turns the engine off and on again. Tonight we had to let it sit at her work for several hours before it would start again, but it started up on the first crank. The only times this happens is if she comes home for lunch and then goes back, and it won't crank when she is trying to get home. It never happens when it has been sitting all night or for 8 hours at work if she eats in. It is only after it has been sitting 3-4 hours. She had plugs replaced and the induction system replaced several months ago, which seemed to have fixed the problem. It started happening again just recently. Happens once every few weeks.

If the car just wine's when starting like it would normally and nothng is happening...Check for fuel, either find the fuel pressure relief valve near the rear of the engine, and depress the valve stem (fuel should hit the roof of hood) if not then its a fuel problem, try this a couple times, but turning the key over, and listen for noise from the gas t ank to see if the pump is actuating.. if you hear the noise while just turn the keyy to acc, not start plz comment back that you hear it , but its still doesnt start....
hope this fix's-ya!

HONDA CRANKS LIKE IT HAS NO COMPRESSION OR BROKEN TIMING BELT .

Remove the valve cover, and watch the cams while cranking it. My best guess is that one if them is not turning. This would explain why there is only compression in once cylinder. Sure the timing belt may be in tact, but if the cam guide pin is sheered off, and bolt that holds gear to the cam is loose, it will cause this.
