Question about 1994 Toyota Pickup

Does the 1994 toyota pickup have a neutral safety switch?

When key is turned in the ignition, the starter just clicks. This happens several times until it starts and is worse when it the engine is cold.

I suspect a dry joint in the armature bars. First try the battery posts and terminals ensuring that they are shiny clean and tight. If so the pull the starter and have it bench tested for the armature problem. IF you have a good auto electrician the dry joint can some times be repaired ( depending on the condition of the armature) or a new starter may be in order. The problem shows as described when the brushes sit directly on or partially on the dead bar as it is an open circuit. Repeated attempts to start move the armature (some times) until the brush makes contact with a good bar and then the starter spins

SOURCE: 97 Toyota 4Runner starting problem

If the immobiliser is not an issue the next time it happens remove the starter relay and swap with any other relay except fuel pump and ignition. Some times just pulling out and replacing works as the contacts on the relay do not have a good clean contact and provide too much resistance.Sure sounds like a relay begining to fail.good luck

SOURCE: 1999 Toyota Solara Starter or Ignition Switch problem?

Your problem is a faulty starter solenoid relay.
It is staying in the POWER ON position.
The relay is located under the hood near the power distribution panel (fusebox) i believe.
Consult your owners manual or Repair manual for exact location.

SOURCE: 1999 Toyota Corolla CE.

I had the same problem with my 99 corolla. It was the solenoid contacts in the starter...they were worn down and didn't either get enough contact or sometimes kind of melt togther (that's why starter spins even after you turn off car and key). Got new contacts and car starts like new!

Turn key and does not even click to try starting.

Try starting it in "NEUTRAL" instead of "PARK".

If it starts, then you know it's the "neutral safety switch".

BUT..........

If it DOESN'T start, it might STILL be that switch, or the ignition switch.

I have a 1988 2wd pickup and the starter won't

starter wont turn or engages the flext plate, flywheel and still wont turn engine over?if this is the case you have a seized up motor, but if it doesnt even click check signal wire from ignition switch for power when you turn the key to crank.if no power your ignition switch,park/neutral safety switch(clutch switch if manual trans) or wrongly installed wired could be the problem.

Truck has power but doesn't start. Starter doesn't click either

Have you checked the circuit between the key switch and the starter ?
There should be a starter relay and a neutral safety switch involved.

Battery is OK. However, nothing happens when I turn the ignition key. Problem had been intermittent until today

A mechanic would check for voltage at the starter, the neutral safety switch, and the key switch.
Could be a dead spot in the starter. Do the warning lights work correctly ?

1994 chevy k1500 4x4. won't even turn over. replaced starter, battery is fully charged. if i bypass the key switch and use a screw driver on the starter the starter works fine. is there an ignition relay...

Check the neutral safety switch, your vehicle should have it mounted on the steering colum. A purple wire runs to this switch from the starter and a yellow wire runs from the neutral switch to your ignition.
