Question about 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
I'm hearing that only a 99-00 engine will replace mine in my 99 jeep grand cherokee 4.0. Do you know why that could be or if it is true and if so, what the difference is? thanks
Hi, The earlier engines had a distribitor for the spark plugs, but later engines for the 1999-2004 cars, have a coil on top of each spark plug controlled by th PCM (or ECU). It may be possible to modify an older engine by using all the ignition gear from your later unit, but I haven't tried. Maybe ask at a Jeep used parts supplier, who may have done a similar job.
