VSC, 4lo, and check engine flashing. Code reads p 0983


P0983 is a transmissioncode that deals with the up/down shift between 4th and 5th.
"P0983 Shift SolenoidD Control Circuit High"
It could be anything from a bad connection to a rebuild.

How to I repair my shift gears on my Chrysler 2007 Sebring? It's stuck in park.


I assume this is a floor shift,remove shifter knob, pry the trim around the shifter up to remove to get to the 2 screws there, in the storage compartment there may be 4 screws, pull Ebrake up as far as you can then rear of console upward over ebrake handle then back,remember you have to reverse what you just did to put it back together. If your after the shift cable try to pop it off the trans first to see if it can be moved out of park at the trans if so more likely is the cable if not you may have internal trans problem.

get it fixed, are you going to diagnose and repair and A/T?
that car is a 1/2 GM/ Daewoo car. a sad mix of parts. (sell it? i would )

Trouble Code Conditions: (preconditions before test)
Transaxle oil temperature is greater than -10 °C (14 °F). Selector lever is not N (Neutral), P (Park) position. (warm , in gear)
System voltage is greater than 9 V.(car battery not dead)
No input speed error DTCs P0715, P0716 and P0717.
Speed sensors not dead.
Output speed is greater than 256 rpm. (tail shaft rpm (speed)
Input speed is greater than 400 rpm. (engine rpm after clutch)
3 - 4 gear shift is active. (the TCM commands shifts to 4th)
Possible Causes:
  • Circuit to solenoids bad.
  • ECM, bad.
  • TCM bad or inputs wrong.
  • end quote.

I shafted to 4th but the MPH is too slow, so the transmission
is not shifting to 4th , or it slips

any mech would drive the car first. (did he?)

TO SEE, if it slips in 4th or fails to shift at all.

  1. fresh ATF? and filter? serviced and levels good on A/T
  2. is the 4th gear command to the shift solenoid good.?(logic)
  3. if trans slips? (fails FSM book stall tests) bad tranny.
  4. if the trans fails stall , check line pressure per FSM.

Vibration when trans shifts to 4th


it might be transmission problem,check the oil level or add some trans oil treatment.do a scan test & read the number.

I have a 42re trans (4x2). My previous trans would always pull out in 2nd gear shifting regular thru the rest. Rarely did it pull out in 1st gear. Eventually the trans went while on the highway. Vehicle...

nor years of all parts swapped.
swaps are super complex topics, endless possibles.

dont expect magic from any TCM.
they cant tell you ever possible way things can be wrong
it will fail to shift right if things are wrong,
the trans TCM can go to limphome mode, read the service manual chapter 21 yet its free, posted here 300 times.
forget the silly engine , light (CEL) use only a scan tool one that can read all factory codes not some $20 tool.
CEL lamp is for failing smog. only. never trust it, if out.

i say bad shift solinoids.
the TCM can see late shift error.s but maybe not all.
stick in 1st is a hard failure.
all inputs to the TCM must be correct for the shift to 2nd happens.
check all inputs.
if those are then see if the TCM did shift to 2nd, but the solenoids ignored the logic inputs to the solenoids.
solenoids have many failure mods
dead. (stuck closed)
stuck open, valve open.
or leaking. (leaking can cause stuck in 1st and confuse any TCM)

leaking means breached, valve leaks where it must not. ever.

its a transmission code, it says you have a faulty shift solenoid, or a circuit in the wiring that goes to the transmission, i personally think it may be a defective shift solenoid its common in these trucks

4L 60E - 2001 k1500 will not shift into 3-4. Oil is not burn't and stifts great into1-2


  • No 3rd or 4th gear: “3-4” clutches are worn out. R&R. The car is safe to drive (in 2) until you can get it fixed.
  • Trans shifts into gear harshly, car feels sluggish off the line, No 1st, 4th or TCC lockup available, Manual 2nd, 3rd and Reverse are only available gears, CEL is on: Transmission is either in limp-home mode or has lost electrical power. If there are lots of error codes in the PCM, check the under hood fuse that powers the transmission, and if it pops again, look for a short in that circuit like an O2 sensor harness touching exhaust. Otherwise, check PCM codes for a particular fault in the transmission causing the PCM to put it in limp-home mode.
  • No 1st or 4th available; trans shifts 2nd to 3rd by itself in D or OD and locks the converter : Shift A solenoid failed. Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.
Check to see if your transmission is in the limp mode, which would only give you 2nd, 3rd and reverse gears. No 1st or 4th gear.

1995 sunfire wont shift gear


There were two different automatic transmissions in the Sunfire that year,the 3 speed trans designated the 3T40,and the 4 speed trans designated the 4T40.If your car has the 4 speed trans,there will be a circle around the "D" on your gear selector indicator.The 3 speed trans will not have a circle around the "D".The 3 speed trans works off of a cable called the TV or Throttle Valve cable.This cable should be checked where it engages the throttle body around the area where the throttle cable attaches to the throttle body,on the engine.If the cable becomes disconnected for whatever reason,the trans will not shift out of 1st gear in most cases.If the car has the 4 speed trans,this model trans is totally electronic,and the vehicle should have the codes pulled out.For every trouble code,there is a diagnostic route to follow to repair the malfunction.
