Check that the oil filter is not loose or leaking from the gasket. check that when filling the engine oil was not spilt over the rocker cover and has run down onto the exhaust manifold

SOURCE: Smoke when braking!

Is this smoke or steam if it disapates quickly it is steam (which means you either have a water leak or are overheating) if it is smoke it will hang in the air much longer this could be something as simple as a valve cover leaking, a brake line leaking and hitting your exhaust manifold

White smoke out of exhaust

Regarding 2001 audi a6 quattro 2.7t....i was driving to work the car was fine then white smoke starting coming from under the hood and tail pipe. i stopped veilce and alot of oil was dripping from front of car. I towed it home and i looked under the hood and there was oil from valve cover gasket. i let the car sit for a few days, had it running again for a good hour and no white smoke was coming out. I removed the valve cover and gaskets are all bad. i want to know can the valve cover gasket leak cause the white smoke to come from exhaust pipe?

Smoke under hood

If this just happened after an oil change more that likely the tech spilled oil down the side of the motor, it should burn off in acouple days.

Smoke under hood from drivers side

Possible spilt oil on exhaust manifold. Open hood, check oil level , make sure its full and take vehicle back to where you had the oil change done and have them recheck everything to make sure all is tight . And ask them to please clean any mess or spill they may have caused.

Heard a grinding sound under hood. Car then died.

So does the a/c still work, maybe your compressor is bad? Top off your oil and run the engine and see if you can find out where the oil came from?

I just bought a 96 dodge caravan 2 days ago ive drove 150 miles today and when i went to shut it off it had smoke i raised the hood its coming almost directly from the front of the van i went to leave...

How low was the oil? It could be something as simple as some oil is leaking out of the valve covers and once it hits the exhaust manifold then it starts smoking. Usually smoke coming from the engine compartment is a result of that. Look and see if it leaks any oil while you have it parked in pavement for a while in case it has something to do with the oil change.

Smoke from engine

I took my slk into the shop for its 12 month check and oil change. It is about a ten-minute drive from my house. As the service guy was taking the numbers off the car, I got a whiff of burning oil. I had him stick his nose between the windshield and hood on the driver's side where I have seen smoke in the past. He said, "yup, smells like you have a oil leak somewhere". After an hour, they located a leak at a corner of the valve cover nearest the driver.
