My fuel gauge hasn't been working for 10days now and I'm not sure what to look for. My first question, "is there a fuse for this problem or is there more to the problem"?

Probably more than a fuse if that is the only instrument that isn't working but you should check the fuse application chart in the vehicle handbook to be sure.

Usually a fuel gauge is tested and fault diagnosed by accessing the wiring at the fuel tank. A wiring diagram might be needed to identify which wire is to be tested. Simply shorting that wire to ground is the crude method of testing when a healthy gauge would usually read full scale. Using a sensor simulator is the correct method.

Getting a gauge reading by that method indicates either the fuel tank ground connection is bad or the fuel gauge unit in the fuel tank is faulty. If no reading was obtained the supply, the gauge, the wiring or the connections are faulty and it is time to investigate further.

Fuel gage not working

Fuel gauge problems are commonly the result of faulty electrical grounding at the tank or a problem with the sending unit inside the tank but can also be caused by faulty wiring or a bad fuse.

96 Mercury cougar gas gauge won't work

Cathy, 1996 Mercury cougar gas gauge not working. Simplest thing to check first is your fuel gage fuse, make sure all fuses are good. The ground wire could be corroded/damaged, sending unit in tank faulty, fuel level gauge in cluster faulty. All things can be tested by a good Tech.,diagnosed and estimate for repair.

2004 ford explorer fuel gauge fuse

If your fuel gauge isn't working , it's not a fuse ! The gauge or the sending unit in the fuel tank is bad . If you had other thing's not working in the instrument cluster I would say probably a fuse. There is not a fuse just for the fuel gauge . What is wrong - The fuel gauge on my YP125R X-Max is constantly showing full

A constantly full fuel gauge is usually caused by a short circuit on the sensor wire. Check the wiring by isolating the wire as near as possible to the fuel gauge. Measure with an Ohm meter between the wire and earth, the reading should be more than 10 and less than about 200k. A short is indicated by a reading of around 0 Ohms, depending on the accuracy of your meter.
A second possibility is the sender unit in the fuel tank which could be faulty, and then finally, and only finally, the head gauge could be faulty.

Fuel gauge does not work right. some times it works then it dont

Hi,
This will be one of 2 things. 1. The fuel gauge is faulty. 2. The fuel level sender unit will be faulty.
Have both these checked out.
Hope this helps.
Thanks

Fuel gauge dont work i put a new fuel pump in it and it still do'nt work 1997 blazer

Was the wire harness replaced from the fuel sending unit to the frame, it's a good practice to replace the wire harness when the sending unit is replaced. The wires are know to break and cause sending unit issues from weak fuel pressure to faulty gas gauges.
The other possibility would be a faulty connection to the stepper motor in the gauge it self or just a faulty stepper motor that would need to be replaced. You can do a search on Ebay for stepper motors for your fuel gauge which runs for around $15.00 which is much better then $400.00 for a new cluster if it is and bad fuel gauge stepper motor.
Thank you for using fixya and good luck.
