May need to go with a lighter grade of engine oil..for instance .. if you are using 30 wt..go to a 10/40 wt..or less 10/30.. the oil may be too thick when cold..my car.. a 91 dodge is the same way..

Crank sensor

During the night or after the car sets for a while. The battery voltage will drop from the normal 13.6 to 13.8 volts when running and Charging, to between 12.3 to 12.6 volts. If the Crank Sensor is going bad, it may not operate correctly with the lower voltage. Check your Battery Voltage in the morning with a Volt Meter. If the Battery Voltage is lower than about 12.3 to 12.5 volts. You may need a new battery. Try leaving the battery on a low current Battery Maintainer overnight and see if it starts in the morning. I have seen many cars that shut down with Low Battery Voltage. Darn these New Fangled Cars and their Computers! FYI, we have never seen a Crank Sensor fail in this manner..... Check the RESTING Battery Voltage.

The problem is more than likely a dead cell in the battery, Each cell in a battery is normally 2.3 volts, they will go over but when rested will return to 2.3 volts, with 6 cells it is 13.8 volts, car starts. 5 good cell is 11.5 volts, almost enough to start, any less not a chance, the starter will just click, cold weather is worse. A new battery will solve the problem

Car is not starting but the lights come on and the horn works

You know how old the battery is?

You tested the voltage across the terminals?
Got 12.6 volts?

2002 cavalier, trac off light came on and then car died and could not get it started again

I would agree with the mechanic. Since the engine will start but dies, you can assume that the battery may be (barely) strong enough to start the vehicle but not strong enough to keep it running. After the engine starts, the alternator does the lions share of producing enough electrical energy to produce a strong spark at the spark plugs. If the alternator is not doing its job, the battery drain fairly rapidly and your engine will die. Within a fair degree of certainty, I would say that the "trac off" light will not occur after the alternator is replaced.
Best of luck!

When i drive my 1993 oldsmobile 98 my voltage will start at or around 12.4 but when i start driving it drops to 11.7 and then slowly drops from there never going back up. i bought a new battery but the...

If your battery is years below you need to change it to new one if this happen the voltage become low mean your the battery plate is getting week, or the water becoming low, battery wont last for 3 years you are lucky if you reach that time. For better performance battery life is only 1 and 1/2 years and be ready to ready replace it soon

Car wont start...clicking noise

well running the voltage from alternator should be at least 14 volts or a bit higher, engine off it should read at least 13 volts at battery. if alternater is less then 14 volts, it is the alternator at fault. or a loose alt, belt.

Car won't start in the morning. Put in new battery, still won't start until we charge the battery. Next morning, same thing.

Check to see how many volts your alternator is putting out at your battery terminals, should be putting out 14-14.4 volts. If its any less than that you probibly need a new alternator

Have a 1996 Taurus wagon--dead battery--got brand new battery and connected it properly and car barely turns over and wont turn enough to start--car was sitting for about three months

Was the battery checked before it was sold to you? Batteries will lose their charge over a period of time even when not hooked up. If you have a voltmeter it should read 12.8 volts on a fully charged battery.
Have you tried to boost the car with cables?
I suspect if the car was working OK 3 months ago it should start. Which leads me to suggest an undercharged battery.

2000 GMC Sierra cranks wont start

Hello, 9-10 volts is not enough to keep a modern vehicle running. Taking in consideration the age and model of this truck, it could easily be an alternator failure.
I hope this helps.
