if that eagle has a 2.0 then your talking about the camshaft gear or is it the crank shaft pulley . then your gonna have to use the gear puller with the two arms and use the thin ones and turn them inside out but if its the small gear just use the two jaw puller and wrap a ratchet strap around the puller to where the jaw puller claws are on snug and use the strap and tighten it down and screw in the center bolt use an inpact wrench just hit the trigger enough to where it gives it a slamming affect . this will jar it lose dont use no hammer .
clutch switch should be located at the pedal under the dash -- why would you want to unhook this? - it's put on there for safety for example, if you have cruise control, it will result in a safety issue! Best regards Ck

Sounds to me like the ignition module went out. I would test the ignition module, then I would test the clutch safety switch. If these test out fine I would test the starter and replace it if it is suspected to be bad.
No lights really seems like the battery might be dead, or a fuse is blown. Check the main and alt. fuses.
The primer button may have a hole in it due to drying out. The little plastic bubble may not be priming the carburator prior to start. Leave on full choke and pull several times if still no start check for fresh and correct fuel/oil mixture if required. I am assuming this trimmer is not electric. If trimmer still fails to start or starts and runs for a moment and shuts off replace the primer button, the carb. is sucking too much air.

normally, if it is a spring that just pulls back the cable of the carburator, then try to look at the end of the cable and look for small holes where the spring could be attached and then pull the cable and on the opposite direction of the pull, look for another hole on the stationary parts of the carb where you think the spring could be attached.
then test the lawn mower for its proper operation.
