Check engine is staying, troubleshooting # po442

A code P0442 most likely means one or more of the following has happened: A loose or improperly affixed gas cap A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand) A small leak/hole in a fuel vapor hose/tube Other small leak in EVAP system Faulty vent o-ring seal Defective vent valve Defective purge valve Defective leak detection pump

With a P0442, the most common repair is to: Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back. Otherwise, replace the gas cap (recommend an OEM not aftermarket part), or Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses More advanced troubleshooting steps include: Using an advanced scan tool, perform an EVAP leak test Verify operation of the EVAP purge solenoid / valve Perform a smoke test to see where the leak is Generally there are vehicle and model specific procedures for proper diagnosis of this DTC.

Replace the EGR valve. EGR is Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve and you'll lose a lot of power if the valve is bad.

What's your problem?egrvalve replaced still failed emmisions after code for egr valve came up

Hello, the evac gas recirculation valve. All this does is recirculate the gas vapor in the system to the engine for burning. But first, the is a evac canister filled carbon pellets needs to be check. It could be next to the fuel tank or on the engine fire wall but it there. Replace it. The auto code system isn't really troubleshooter for the components in the auto. It is not finite. If other components are connected to different vacuum valves, electric solenoid valves, pressure valves this component could also be malfunctioning causing the valves to fail. Don't rely on failure code, the component could be faulty or maybe not. Wish you luck. GB...stewbison

I have a 2003 kia optima, When trying to pump gas, the gas pump shuts offl but i am sure its not.

My daughter has an 02 Optima would not take fuel unless it was down to 1/4 tank due to back pressure (similar to being full). Ran several hours of troubleshooting including removing and checking the cannister, which was fine. I finally found a 1-way check valve that was installed backwards (at the factory). As soon as I disconnected the valve, the pressure instantly released. We reversed it and the car took fuel normally. The valve has the flow arrow molded on it. It should point toward the fill cap, not to the tank. The valve is located behind a panel in the wheel well, near the filler. Small plastic with a blue and black end (at least on my model). Hope this works!

what code is it?po440,p0455?If it is one of those codes it means you have a large evap system leak not a vacuum leak by the engine.the evap leak is most likely a inop vent valve or a fuel cap not properly sealing.

Engine misses and bucks till it warmes up then runs fine

EGR valve or system is bad. that is Exhaust Gas Recycling valve. It's a pollution device that recycles exhaust gas back through the engine once it warms up. It's not suppose to work while engine is cold so there is a thermostat system for it that closes off the EGR valve while engine is cool. Once it warms up then it opens the valve. If you're recycling exhaust gas while engine is cool it will run rough. This can be hard for the average guy to troubleshoot as you need check the vacumn switches and thermostat valve.
