Battery and large wire eyelet w/fusible links on it, both go to large stud on solenoid. purple wire w/small eyelet goes on small stud, should have a S near proper small stud. do this with battery dissconnected

I dont think my starter is hooked up correctly anyone know how to hook up a starter the wires i mean

Kinda depends on what vehicle you have. Chevys have a solenoid on the starter with one big wire from battery (and sometimes other hot wires are hooked up here), one goes to the starter pole on the ignition switch on older models, and one goes to the coil to bypass the ignition resistor (again on older models). Fords have the solenoid on the inner fender well.

vehicles dont use capacitor on starters and really they have done away with most all capacitors on vehicles since they were able to isolate interference in the altenator. a capacitor takes energy in and slowly releases energy or at one time alot when needed if your talking about a great big cylinder thing that sits on top of starter its called a selinoid it has a coil of wire inside that cause a electro magnet inside it to throw the armature starting gear out to fly wheel. there should be only 3 posts on it or only 2 one large post for battery cable and any other accessory that needs constant power and one or two small posts hook the ignition wire to one of the posts and all other wires to other small post if only one small post hook all the small wires to the small post and the larger wires to the large post

I have been told my starter is broke but i dont know where it is or how to fix it.

Ok, this is simple to find. Walk out to the truck, crawl under by the tranny, on the right side. Most Chevy's are there. Between the engine and tranny, is a fly wheel(giant gear with lots of teeth. The starter should be there. Very easy to replace. Undo the battery cables from the battery( don't want to short anything out), then undo the wires on the starter. Now, you will have 2 or 3 bolts holding the starter to the block of the engine. Remove those, and take starter out(CAUTION: make sure there are NO shims there(small thin metal between starter and block. If there are, SAVE them) Now replace the starter(PUT those shims back when replacing starter), bolt back to block, and re hook the wiring. now reconnect the battery, and start your engine. Take about 30 to 45 minutes of your life. Not hard at all

STARTER SHORTED OUT

main wire to the big bolt, little wire to the little bolt. dont do this with the battery in becuase you could fry some wires. if you have already fried the wires then there should be a fusible link just off the battery

95 Jetta, not starting?

does the car have an alarm system? if so what kind is it. some alarms prevent the car from starting if it sences a problem. it is possible that you hooked up the stereo and it is causing a malfunction in the starting.
