Sounds like the wrong sensor for the car. The correct sensor would also have 3 wires: a signal wire, a ground, and a voltage, reference voltage wire. The 4 wire sensor sounds like it might be a Heated Oxygen Sensor, not applicable on your car.

SOURCE: omDo you know the wiring

Match up the black wires (signal ground), the gray wire from the car to the white wire on the sensor (this is the signal wire), and the white wires on the sensor to the blue and yellow wires on the car (these are the heater wires and it doesn't matter which of the white wires on the sensor mate to the blue or yellow wires).

SOURCE: Do you know wiring sequence

1-black=signal.--
2-gray=ground.--
3-white=heater.--
4-white=heater.--
--- White wires are for the heater - the heater is not polarity sensitive, it's just a resistive element. The black wire is the sensor output. The gray wire is the sensor return, or ground. -------------------- O2 sensor black(signal +) goes to Black on wiring harness.-------
O2 sensor gray(signal -) goes to White on wiring harness.--------
O2 sensor white(heater) goes to Blue/Yellow stripe on wiring harness (this doesn't matter if it matches).--------
O2 sensor white(heater) goes to Yellow/Blue stripe on wiring harness (this doesn't matter if it matches).----------
------------------------ This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

1996. Which color wires go where?

There should have been an instruction sheet in the box with the sensor. If not, you may have to go back to the store and ask for one.
Most sensor brands are different.

I need to know which wire on the 4 wire oxygen sensor (2 white, one grey one black) is the heat wire on a ford f-150 o2 sensor?

Hello! There are four O2's...Each O2 heater, left and right bank, front and rear, has it's own wire colors...These colors are "at the connector"...First series are the control ground sent by the PCM..
RR=White/Black...RF=Red/White...LR=Tan/Yellow...And LF=Yellow/Light Blue...........This series are the battery leads, hot when fuel pump relay pulls...RR=Violet/White...
RF=Red/Yellow...LR=Violet/White...LF=Red/Yellow...

1993 mercury villager mini van. rear heater fan does not work? do u know why?

Yes, you have bad solder joints in the circuit borad on the relay in the front control head. There a 4 solder pins that needed to be resoldered. I posted a picture on this site or you can go to our Villager site and follow the directions.

I also repair them for $25 plus shipping. I send you a repaied heater control and then you send me yours back for the next person. You can do this. If not, let me know. I also have a shop manual & wiring diagram for $25. Factory manuals, not Haynes.

The one to the right and 2 below also need solder.
