My 2008 Mitsubishi lancer cj my08 drivers side back door wont open from inside or outside. Small 1/4 window has been smashed and im guessing there might glass stuck in the locking mechanism but I dont know...

Wind the window down completely. You should be able to get a hooked wire down behind the glass to snag the lock mechanism. You could also call your auto club for assistance.

I need to remove the window winder on my toyota landcruiser, to see whats causing my window to become really stiff to wind up or down !

The issue on a manual window winder if becoming stiff, is that the internal mechanism will likely be worn and possibly corroded.

Before stripping and replacing any parts, try purchasing a silicone spray and applying it to the inside, rubber edges of the window runner guides on both sides. If these guides have become perished and out of shape, then these too can cause the issue you are describing.

Hi there,

If manual window winder

Your driver's window glass may have come off the regulator mechanism.

If electric window control

The glass may have detached from the regulator or the regulator cable has unwound itself off the mechanism (ie tension during upward motion, but loose when motor stops winding).

Your driver's door panel will need to be removed to inspect your window regulator operation.

Toyota Tazz 1997. The driver side window does not wind up or down so I am trying to get the door panel off but am stuck at getting the window winder off first - HELP Thanks Tony

Hi tony, my name is Ben. The first time you do this it can be difficult but once you see how it's done you will be a pro at it believe me. Okay, there is a "C" shaped clip holding the winder handle onto the shaft. Usually the open end of the "C" is towards the part you grab to wind the window. There is a special tool made to remove the clip, or you can use a sharp pick such as an ice pick or a small screwdriver to pop it off. BE CAREFUL, when it releases it can go flying off into space never to be seen again. Carefully push the door panel outward and try to work your pick down to pop one end of the "C" loose. It is a bit difficult, but take your time and you can do it. Good luck, let me know if I can help you with any other part of this, Ben.

Window winder removal

Manual winders are all the same (in my experience)... so this should apply to you:

You need to push back on the door-skin so that you can access a small bronze/silver clip that holds the winder onto the teeth of the mechanism.

I find that a medium-sized flat-head screwdriver is great for pushing that clip off... it's basically a "U" shape, but with a few divets in it. You want to look, then wind the handle until you have one of the points of the "U" facing you at the top. Push it down with the flat-side of the screwdriver, and it should go flying off like an elastic band into the nearest storm-water drain...

My advice: don't do it over your lawn or storm-water drain if you want to find it again!

After that spring-clip-thing is off, the handle just slides off the shaft without any effort. =-]

Manual window cables for making window go up &down

Check to make sure the wire has not fallen off the guide wheel/s. If it has and you have tried to force it to wind you may have flattened the window cables out and may need to replace them. If you have not tried to force it to wind and cables are in good condition just make sure they are still on the guide wheel/s and it should wind also check the wire on the winder spindle which is behind the handle to make sure it has not bunched up. If it has dropped off the guides and you are not sure haow it goes back on post me a picture of the window assembly and I will tell you.
