ABS system will not be active until a wheel skids and then the system cuts in. What do you mean exactly by brakes are bad as there are a couple of things that may be wrong excluding the ABS system

I have a 2007 Saturn Vue. When it rains my breaks will come on all by themselves, there are no lights that come on (like the ABS or any others).

I would have the steering angle sensor checked. When they go bad, They can reduce speed by apply brakes. If you have had an alignment recently, they should have reset the steering angle. Also have them check the ABS module plug for corrosion.

Yes a 1993 Chrysler / dodge / plymouth with Antilock brake system has lifetime warrenty on said system. It is a bad design and dangerous. Mine stopped working and it took extreme pressure on brake pedal plus emergency brakes to get it stopped.

if you have had all them parts changed and its binding one moment then not working correct. the possible problem can be the abs unit, when you apply the brakes the abs controls the pressure. if the vale in the abs unit is faulty you can get this problem and worse. you may not even get a code as the coil is still fine is just its stuck. i would have this part checked or replaced.

Today my scion xd abs ligth and break ligth came on, what could be the problem and how unsafe can it be.

Well you can drive without ABS the brake light came on because the ABS. I would have it serviced they might tell you the ABS unit is bad you don't need ABS they just prevent your tires from locking up during heavy break use

Hi

This is most likely one of 2 things 1 the abs sensor on one wheel is faulty, not uncommon cost about $80 for a new one. or you can clean the old one as often they get dirty from brake dust.

secondly the brake pads may need replacing, the ABS warning light is to let you know that these may need replacing, often when it is the brakes they will fel different as you press it down, sometimes they push back up towards you as your pushing down. I would have the back brakes checked as that is normally the cause.

you can still drive the car no problem.
hope that helps

Dan

Abs light on

ABS is the anti binding system this is the system that reduces your car from skidding if you break hard. on older cars you may have been told to pump the break in an emergency to reduce skidding well ABS does that for you.

it is still possible to drive your car without ABS but the light may be indicating something else that is wrong with your breaking system I recommend you have this checked by a certified machanic or dealership.

Yes you can bypass it by removing the plugs from the abs pump. But you will have the abs light flashing.Just remove the bulb and you should be fine.
