Dragging back tires

My 99 gmc sierra has a popping soung every now and then and drags the back tires when turning. Also when going down the road it feels like the brakes are on. Today I had just left home and it totally stopped in the road. I finally got it to back up and then it went forward again. Any thoughts?

The plastic underpanel in the front of my Honda Fit was dragging and jacked up, so I removed it. The wheel well plastic panels are also destroyed by the previous owner's need to have extra large tires. ...

they are there to cut down on drag. also in a strong wind it stops the wind blowing you over the road. so it is up to you if you have them or not. they are plastic to cut down on weight. you can get new ones to replace them but they cost a bit. second hand parts will do to replace them and they are cheaper you will need new grommets to install them. putting the wrong size tires on is not a good idea. the damage that to larger tires do to the car is not worth it. were out the steering quicker damage the tires. bearings suspension...... the list can go on. if you having problems keeping to the road choose better tires.

I have a 1996 GMC Sierra 4X4 truck, have had a harsh 1/2 shift after 8-12miles of driving. Yesterday started engine put in drive accelerated slowly turning out of driveway felt/heard loud mechanical clang...

Hey Dennis.
Opppsss.. was this transmission serviced regularly?, ok.. this is a common problem, you will need to take it to s QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL to get the trans rebuilt..
If you live near a local drag strip, go there, ask the drag race mechanics who the best transmission man there is?? There is always one or two the drag racers relay on.. I would trust him to get it done right (BEFORE I would trust a "chain" transmission store!!!!!)
I, personally, have had two transmissions do this.. one a 96 suburban and a 95 Silverado.(both inherited and never serviced).. I found the guy that did mine this same way.. GLAD I DID.. it was less $$$$ and great work!! If no drag strip.. ask the custom car guys...

My 99 gmc sierra 2wd and when i am turning left or right from a stop my back tires seem to be trying to lock up but once going straight seems fine?

Is this a limited-slip differential? You might try a rear axle fluid change-don't forget to get limited-slip additive(or a fluid that has it blended in)

Could be steering shaft on bottom of column that connects column to gearbox. Rag joint or u-joints on shaft are dry or seized. Try spraying rubber rag joint & u-joints on steering shaft with a good penetrating oil like PB Blaster. Work steering wheel all the way to left, spray, then turn all the way to right & spray some more.

My Gmc 1992 it will start and everything but when i take out for a drive it wont resond.i press the gas and it to lazy..

Mine did the same thing for years, dragging response and what sounded like octane knock. Turns out the front brakes were dragging so it was like trying to drive with the brakes on all the time. After replacing both front calipers and bleeding system out with new fluid, it turned out that the brake hoses were bad. An easy solution to a problem that dogged me for years, feels like a new motor under the hood now.

Have you noticed any pulling when braking? Try pulling up to a stop on a slight incline and see if it rolls or stays in place. It should roll easily, if not, you've got brakes dragging.

I cant get my spare tire down from my 2006 GMC Sierra. I think the mechanism might be stripped.

The spare tire support cable has an additional safety mechanism prevents the spare tire from falling onto the road should the cable break. This mechanism often gets filled up with road grit and won't release properly when you try and lower the spare. If your spare comes down a few inches then won't go any further then this is your problem. There should be some tin brackets included with your jack that are supposed to hold the spare tire up slightly off of the ground to allow some slack in the cable which usually [but not always] will allow the stuck mechanism to come loose. There is a more detailed description of this procedure in the owners manual. IF the spare won't move at all or the mechanism just won't release no matter what you do then you may have to have the entire spare support mechanism replaced.

My 2006 gcm 2500 4 door truck back doors will not lock when i use my remote key or when i put it in gear

there is a power motor thats conected to the main lock drag link via a sub drag link which are clamped together some time the clamp gets loose and slides on main drag link and when activated dose not go through its corect range of travel ,engageing lock partly or not at all. you would have to remove the door trim to acsess it.
