SOURCE: Need to tighten the serpentine belt tension

Serpentine belt tension is controlled by the belt tensioner (idle pulley on a spring loaded arm). The arm may be corroded and not moving into the belt properly. Sometimes spraying the tensioner are at its pivot with penetrating oil and moving the arm back and forth will loosen it and allow proper tension to be restored. If not then the tensioner will have to be replaced. This is presuming that the correct belt is installed.

What bolts do I loosen to tighten the power sterring belt on my 1981 buick reveria

IF you have a serpentine belt it's not a matter of adjusting the power steering belt tension because it's done automatically with a serpentine belt tensioner.
OTOH, if you have a separate V-belt you'll need to loosen the mounting bolt/nut at the bottom of the steering pump and the adjustment bracket then tighten the belt by moving the adjustment nut to tighten the belt.
You might be able to google a video of your particular engine power steering belt adjustment.

How to tighten the altanator belt on a 1983 chevy cavalier

It's alternator. Do you have a serpentine belt or seperate belt. If seperate, there are two bults on the alternator. Loosten both but do not remove. Take a prybar and pry back on alternator. Have someone hold the prybar while you tighten or hold yourself and tighten. If you have a serpentine belt, you need to replace the belt tensioner. The spring is weak inside the tensioner. It's 30 years old. remember that.

When you pop the hood the belts are to the leftside.you will need to remove the pass/side fender cover to see lower part of belts, heres a diagram to help you remove and install belts correctly, loosen bolts A-B to remove the ac/ alt belt loosen A a few turn and B is what releases tension as you turn it, after you tighten the belt then you will tighten A bolt, same with the other belt you loosen C-D bolts a few turns then loosen E to release the tension on the belt then install new belt and thighten bolt E after the belt is tight then tighten C-D bolts, hope this helps. good luck.dis regaurd the wiring diagram,1561ac9.gif0a0a47b.gif

Serpentine belt squeaks on startup

You can not tighten the belt, it is held on by the Belt tensioner...it's located a little to the left side of the waterpump...now it maybe getting weak, or your belt may need to be replaced...Sometimes they look good, with no cracks, but they get worn and streched out over time..or it may look shiny..either one of those will cause it too squeak..

How do you tighten serpentine belt

Typically serpentine belts are tightened automatically by a tensioner, if the belt is slipping, or squealing, try installing a new belt, careful of the routing tho, be sure to install it correctly, or more problems may occur.

Chatter when turning

The serpentine belt should not have to be tightened because ther is a tensioner to keep it taught. If it feels loose then you need to check the tensioner and also see if the belt stretched. I hope this helps.
