The back bolts on my thermostat /water outlet is hard to get to.on my 2000 lincoln ls what tools do i need

The two back bolts are very hard to get to what tools do i need? I have a 2000 Lincoln LS v8 engine.

Should be able to get to it with a flex-socket,unless it's best for you to remove whatever is in the way (try first with a flex-socket and extension. MAKE SURE YOU HAND START THE BOLTS TO MAKE SURE YOU DON'T CROSS-THREAD AND TIGHTEN EVENLY AS TO PREVENT BREAKING THE NEW PIECE.

SOURCE: 2000 Lincoln ls overheating

There is a hose on the side of the coolant resevoir that has a straight blade screwdriver fitting in it. Open the fitting and this will bleed the heads on the LS. Without opening this you will never get the air out of the head, trust me.

SOURCE: 2000 lincoln ls heater not working...thermostat?

- If temp guage reads normal, the lack of heat may be due to the Heater Control Valve. Located in front of the radiator. Lower passenger side. A real bugger to replace.
- The plastic cap just over the thermostat is key in re-filling the anti freeze and bleeding air.

SOURCE: 2002 LS: aHow do I fill radiator in my V8 Lincoln LS...

First- to drain ,you can reach the drain valve,from the pass side,if you lay on the ground and reach up to the radiator. You do not even have to raise the vehicle up
Second- mix Yellow GO5 Coolant about 50/50 or 60/40. Do not use Green in a Ford or Orange GM
To Fill- Remove the front two plastic screw type buttons,from the engine cover
-Remove the cover
The radiator cap is on the front of engine,on top,it is plastic
Remove cap and that is your fill point
Run engine to warm and get thermostat open,as you would with any vehicle
Top off coolant,replace cap
VERY IMPORTANT-next to the Power Brake Booster,and just under it,is a BLEEDER HOSE;to let air out of system. Turn screw slot ,only a little,DO NOT REMOVE SCREW. When coolant runs out close.
Fill-Degas Bottle,to full line,with coolant.
Check the next couple days on resevoir level ( Degas Bottle)

Engine coolant thermostat/water outlet assembly replace for 2000 lincoln ls


First with the engine cool, drain some of the antifreeze from the radiator. Second, take the hose clamp off of the upper radiator hose on the engine side and slide the hose off the water neck, some antifreeze might spill out. Third, remove the two bolts that hold the water neck and remove the waterneck, some antifreeze may spill out. Fourth, remove the old thermostat and o-ring , clean the sealing surface and install the new thermostat and o-ring the same way it came out. Last just reverse the procedure to get it back together, tightening the two waterneck bolts to 18 ft. Lbs. Fill with 50/50 antifreeze and water start it up and check for leaks. And you are done. Should only take about 20-30 minutes

2000 lincoln ls heat take long to heat up


Change the thermostat and see if that heats up the Lincoln.Here's how to do it.After removal,it should be closed,to check it,put in pot of water and heat to 183 degrees and it should open and close after you take out of water.

I have a lincoln ls 2000 and where i put the water in it boils really hot what can this mean


I'm thinking a possible stuck or partially stuck thermostat as the easiest and least expensive fix.
There could be an obstruction somewhere if its not the thermostat...maybe a back flush is in order as well.

I need to replace a thermostat in a 2000 Chevy 2500 6.0 liter pickup


4.8L, 5.3L and 6.0L Engines To Remove:
CAUTION
The thermostat is not serviceable separately. The thermostat housing (water pump inlet) and thermostat must be replaced as an assembly.
  1. Remove the radiator outlet hose. chevy_aval15_02-04_inlet.gif

  2. Remove the bolts from water pump inlet.
  3. Remove the water pump inlet from the water pump.
To Install:
  1. Install the water pump inlet to the water pump.
  2. Install the water pump inlet bolts.
    • Torque to: 11 ft-lbs. (15 Nm)
  3. Install the radiator outlet hose.
6.6L Engine To Remove:
  1. Before servicing the vehicle refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2. Drain the engine coolant.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Water outlet 6.6L Thermostat housing removal gm_trk_sil25_02-04_66_therm_hous_rem.gif

    • Bolt for the fuel line bracket
    • Thermostat housing cover bolts
    • Thermostats and seals
To Install:

    • Thermostats and seals to the thermostat housing NOTE: The rear thermostat (D) has 2 vent valves. Install with the vent valves towards the rear of engine.

      1. Torque to: 15 ft. lbs. (21 Nm)
    • Fuel line bracket bolt and tighten the bolt
      1. Torque to: 15 ft. lbs. (21 Nm)
    • Water outlet
  2. Fill the engine with coolant.
  3. Test drive the vehicle to confirm the repairs.
8.1L Engine To Remove:
  1. Before servicing the vehicle refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

Removal & Installation 3.0L Engine To Remove:
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section
  2. Drain the engine cooling system
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Air cleaner outlet tube
    • Hoses and remove the thermostat housing assembly
    • Bolts separate the housing and remove the thermostat and seal
To Install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    • New seal and thermostat. Torque bolts to 8 ft-lbs (11 Nm)
    • Hoses to assembly
    • Air cleaner outlet tube
3.9L Engine To Remove:
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section
  2. Drain the engine cooling system
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Intake manifold
    • Nuts and remove the hose bracket
    • Stud bolts
    • Lower radiator hose from the thermostat housing
    • Bolts and thermostat housing cover
    • Thermostat and seal
To Install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    • New seal and thermostat
    • Housing cover. Torque bolts to 8 ft-lbs (11 Nm)
    • Lower radiator hose to the thermostat housing
    • Stud bolts. Torque to 10 ft-lbs (13 Nm)
    • Hose bracket. Torque nuts to 89 in-lbs (10 Nm)
    • Intake manifold

For 2000 Lincoln LS 3.9L SFI DOHC 8cyl...
Radiator - Removal & Installation
  1. Drain the engine cooling system.
  2. Remove the upper radiator sight shield.
  3. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.
  4. Remove the six bolts and the two radiator upper support brackets.
  5. Remove the upper radiator hose.
  6. Remove the bolt and position the receiver drier aside.
  7. Disconnect the dual flow coolant valve electrical connector and the A/C line from the fan shroud.
  8. 3.0L engines only:
    Disconnect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor and the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve electrical connectors.
  9. Remove the bolts.
  10. Remove the bracket.
  11. 3.9L engines only:
    Remove the bolt and position the electric water pump aside.
  12. Disconnect the high pressure cooling fan bracket and line.
  13. Inspect the seal and install a new seal if necessary.
  14. Disconnect the return hose from the cooling fan and shroud.
  15. Separate the return hose from the fan shroud and position aside.
  16. Remove the two bolts and the fan shroud assembly.
  17. Remove the A/C condenser.
  18. Remove the two bolts and position the multi-cooler assembly aside.
  19. Remove the bolts and the condenser support brackets.
  20. Remove the radiator.

To install:
  1. Install the following:

    Radiator Condenser support brackets Multi-cooler assembly A/C condenser Fan shroud assembly
  2. Connect the return hose to the fan shroud
  3. Connect the high pressure cooling fan bracket and line.
  4. 3.9L engines only:
    Replace the bolt and position the electric water pump aside.
  5. 3.0L engines only:
    Connect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor and the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve electrical connectors.
  6. Replace the following
    The upper radiator sight shield. The air cleaner outlet tube. The six bolts and the two radiator upper support brackets. The upper radiator hose. The bolt and position the receiver drier aside.

2000 lincoln ls 3.9 overheating


Do a radiator pressure test, tools can be purchased at the local auto parts store. It may be that tyou have a blown headgasket and it builds an airpocket below the thermostat and will insulate it and not allow it to open. Another way to test is to take off thermostat housing and pull thermostat and start engine but do not rev it up. Water must be to top of housing... In some cases if air bubbles appear it will mean blown head gasket... The problem with this is it may only happen when engine is at operating temperature. Car can be driven and warmed up in first method, pressure will always rise but if it rises quickly it would be head gasket.
