SOURCE: 1998 Ford windstar horn wiring

There is something called a clock spring in the column that is used for the airbag, horn and cruise control buttons. This clock spring if messed with will cause a/bag light to come on and possibly cause a/bag failure if there is a collision. DON"T mess with the wiring in the column. Run new wires in to the horn or install an a/market horn.

SOURCE: 1999 ford taurus starter will not engage

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

To my knowledge, you assumption is correct on most designs. That wire should go to the ignition switch and will be hot when key is in START. However, same wire often would be connected first to a relay that is interlocked with some conditions/status other then key to START. They would be:

  • automatic transmission should be in neutral/park with light indicated;
  • alarm/security/immobilizer is inactive/OFF.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

It's a 98. Call around and see if you can get the plug. Parts stores, junk yards. If you can't find it. Go with a newer year. Modify it to fit your lens. May have to modify the lens also.

This is most likely caused by a bad wire loom in the steering column called a clock spring. They are a pain to replace without special tools.

Where is the ignition switch located?

Its a simple 5 or 6 pisition switch located on the steering coloum derrictly behind the key switch where you but the key into the lock cylinder and this needs to be removed to repace the ignition switch along with trim parts that cover the steering coloum . Idon't have a manual for your year but its alwas a bit tricky because they don't people to be able to pop the key switch out and steal your vehicle so there speical bolts that need to be drilled out or break off when tightened to a spisific torque . A nd its hard to test the switch unless its out of the vehicle well don't kill the mesinger i just told the truth

2003 ford ranger edge, when steering column is lowered, turn signals and brake lights will not work. when raised back up, will work fine. any help would be apppreciated.

It sounds like there is an intermittent connection in the wiring loom at the base of the steering columna at the hinge where it tilts. Check for any loose plastic interconnection blocks or chafed or broken wires in the wiring loom around the base of the column. Jiggling the loom may help to isolate the area at fault. You may have to unwind the tape around the loom to find exactly where the problem is. Repair as necessary. You may have to splice in a bit of wire if there are any broken wires. Wrap any bare wires with tape to prevent any shorts.

2001 Ford Falcon AU111 speedo not working again. 4 weeks ago the sensor was replace as the speedo, odometer and the DTE were all not working. All has been good until last week, now only the speedo not...

Just check the connection on the speedo sensor and the wiring that leads up till it gets to the main loom. There could be a loose connection there.

If thats ok then you will need to get the loom checked and the dash. It could be the dash is faulty..

My car may need a new key ignition put in on the steering coloum. I can not start my car with my everyday key or even my pass key. some one told me that it may be the ignition on the steering coloum....

these have whats called a vats system. the little black pellet in your key is a resistor. there are 14 different values. you will need to buy a new lock cyinder and key.

How to adjust idle on ford falcon el 6 cylinder

wam the car up, disconnect the idle speed control valve wiring plug (idle control valve sits on top of the throttle body) then set the idle to 700rpm with the grub screw stop just above where the throttle cable fits to the throttle body. Reconnect theidle control valve and you're done. It may take a few k's driving for the ECU to relearn the new throttle stop position. The idle speed control valve is only used by the ECU to add idle speed when extra load is put onto the engine such as power steering or air con use, the base idle is set mechanically on the old falconns.
