Question about 2000 Lincoln LS
I also have a 2004 LS and have always found it troubling when someone takes a vehicle to a professional and the vehicle isn't repaired, according to the inital complaint. It may take a couple trips and you may have to pay diagnostic time,to solve these issues. I would never recommend a dealer except for warrantee work. That said ,I have done 100% of my own work for 46 years.
The fact that it only happens occasionally & briefly,as well as the RPM dropping, tells me it is shutting off, then back on. I would say that the little armature in the electric fuel pump,is mechanically bound, when this happens. You have a Transfer Pump and a Distribution Pump in the gas tank. Also Fuel Pump Relay or Fuel Pump Driver Module. It is a variable speed pump. High Tech Stuff.
Before I would look for Vacuum Leaks,I would look at Data from the MAF/AIT Sensor. A leak would cause issues you don't have. Also you may see your MPG drop. The O2 Sensor would be working overtime also.
While your deciding on your next move,I would look at TPS Data. (Throttle Position Sensor).
You can expect at least one item a year to fail on this vehicle.
Find a good shop and stay with them
You only want the best employee working on it, PERIOD
Preferably ASE Certified Tech or former Dealer Tech
Let me know if you have Check Light on or Codes Stored.
Never Authorize Work over the phone. Get involved in the process, and go to the shop, and have them SHOW YOU what is wrong. NOT TELL you.
They have to have test equipment on the vehicle, and take you into the service bay to do that.
