Most of them are on top of the transmission or on the side by the linkage and im not really sure if there is a way to test it you can try a voltmeter and see if its getting juice

Hello: If you have a automatic transmission the switch is on the shaft for the manual input. This is located on the drivers side of the transmission.

My 2001 f150 4x4 will not start unless i hole the gear shift up while in park. what is the cause of this??

You probably need a linkage adjustment,a neutral safety switch adjustment or replacement of the neutral safety switch.

My 2000 Ford Lightning V8 5.4L won't shift out of park!!

The best thing to do is go to any Advance or Auto Zone and buy the Chilton Repair book for this vehicle and it will have step by step instuctions for any repair that you may need. It also has pictures too. They cost around 19.99 but this book is the best for any repairs that you may ever have. Hope this helps.

Put truck in park and go back and it will not start

Sounds like a neutral safety switch is bad or needs adjusted. The switch prevents the truck from being started in gear....maybe try adjusting the shifter linkage at the transmission and see it that helps first.

Audible seatbelt warning keeps on sounding on my 2005 f150 ford truck

From the F-150 Forums, since I just bought one and this worked!

This is straight from my 2009 f150 owners guide

Preperation
1. the parking brake is set
2. truck in park
3. ignition switch is in off position
4. both seat belts are unbuckled

Disable Belt-Minder
1. turn the ignition switch to the on position, DO NOT START THE ENGINE.
2. wait until the safety belt warning light turns off. (approximately 1 minute).
* step 3 must be completed within 50 secs after the safety belt warning light turns off.
3. buckle then unbuckle the seat belt nine times, ending in the seat belt unbuckled.
* after step 3 the restraint warning light, (airbag light) will turn on for three (3) seconds.
4. within approximately seven (7) seconds of the light turning off, buckle then unbuckle the safety belt.
* the restraint system warning light will flash four, (4) times per second for 3 seconds for confirmation

you can do this for the passenger side also!!!

*NOTE
in step 3. after three times buckling and unbuckling the restraint warning light lit up in my truck. SO I WENT TO THE NEXT STEP, (STEP 4). waited 3 seconds and i buckled and unbuckled.

in the buckle /unbuckle procedure do it some what slowly and watch for the light. it may not take 9 times.

Engine will not turn over or start when in park with key on.

You linkage is working properly it sounds like, especially if the indicator for "D, R, N", etc are lining up. However the linkage or the neutral safety switch may need to be adjusted. More than likely, it's your neutral safety switch.

The brake pedal release has nothing to do with the neutral safety switch when switching gears.

The brake pedal release is just a safety to prevent you from pushing the gear shifter accidentally. Actually, you should be able to start the truck without holding the brakes.

If the neutral safety switch is bad or misaligned, it'll do exactly what you're describing. If pulling it down in neutral starts the truck, then that's a sure indicator.

from what your desribing your truck shift linkage needs adjusting if it is not starting and this is happening i would first went to the safety nuetral switch mounted on the tranny by your shift lever it might not be lined up because of the shift adjustment try with somone helping you chalk the wheel have some one help you under your truck you should see a nut that holds your shifting arm to your tranny loosen have someone inside hold shift level up tight to get the play out make sure the lever arm on your tranny is all the way either forward or backward in the position it should be in for park retighten nut if the neutral switch is slightly off it will create no start condition good luck
