Find the temp sensor and un plug it. The temp. gauge in the dash should go to hot!!!! If it does, the temp. sensor is bad.

'05 Grand Am 3.4 V6 Temp Gauge not Working all of a sudden.

Sounds like a temp sensor or wiring problem.
You may only have one sensor for both the gauge and the engine computer.
If the computer temp sensor fails, or is not sending a signal to the engine computer, the fans will run as a precaution to keep the engine from overheating.
If you have replaced the correct sensor, it could be a wiring problem, or the engine coolant could be low enough to not touch the sensor.
If the coolant sensor is not sending a signal, the check engine light should also be on.

My gas and temp gauge doesnt work. When i turn on the car they spin all the way around. i never know how much gas i have.

This is common on the 03-05 Cavalier instrument clusters, it's caused by failing stepper motors on the cluster's circuit board and can be fixed. Check out this site for more on how to get it repaired - Cavalier gas gauge broken

I have a 2004 cavalier. It has a temp gauge problem,i have replaced the sending unit but that was a temporary fix, the gauge still acts up. I also have a check engine light on and scanned it says it has an...

the temp gauge is for the water/coolant temperature - most likely it's sticking thermostat -- if you do it yourself it's fairly cheap ($10-15 for the thermostat plus the coolant) just make sure to follow local guidelines for disposal of any coolant

I'm not sure if it would effect the EGR or not, but it's possible. Also, unless the scan results were specific enough to rule it out, most emissions issues are with the O2 sensors

Putting is 100 percent coolant is not good, the coolant will not work well, it needs to be mixed with water to work properly. You can buy pre-mixed coolant at any parts store.

Have the cooling system pressure tested to check for leaks.

The cooling system relies on a set presure to work properly, If the system has a pressure leak, it will not work properly

If you are not seeing any coolant dripping from the underside of the car then my guess is you have a blown head gasket or a cracked head and the coolant is going into the cylinder

Most likely this is the common 03-05 Cavalier instrument cluster problem where the stepper motors on the cluster's circuit board go out. It can be fixed, check this page for more on how to get it taken care of - Cavalier fuel gauge broken

Temp gauge off charts

Are you mistaking the engine temp sensor for the engine temp sending unit? The temp sensor is for the fuel injection system and the temp sending unit is for the gauge. If you asked for a sensor thats what they sold you. You need to ask for a sending unit.

Temp gauge

The sensor you replaced was the ECT (engine coolant temp)? Check your coolant level and air in the lines. Do a coolant pressure test to make sure the cooling system holds pressure, If it doesn't, you may have a head gasket problem.
