Question about 2000 Chevrolet Blazer
I have a blazer 2000 with 12000 miles on it. At the moment the car start but I can't drive it. I hear a knocking sound like it has no oil on it which at first was what I thought, it sound like a Spund a Rod Bearing has goten bad this is what I was told. I also was told I need to replace the motor by one person and I was told by another, I can get the car fix by just replacing the parts. Why should I do as I don't have the money to add or replace the motor? more or less how much can the repairs cost me in the NYC area? Please help.....
Is it getting fuel? Does it sputter or fart when starting? Does it have spark? Pull the coil wire off of the distributor and hold 1/8 to 1/4 inch from where you pulled it off (able to see exposed connections and with rubber gloves so not to get shocked) and roll engine over to see if sparks. If spark then must be a fuel problem. Can you hear a buzzing noise like a fuel pump running when you key your ignition to the run (not start) position?

Knocking can also sometimes mean you have the wrong octan but most of the time it means your tie rods or connecting rods are worn.
Stuck lifters, frozen connecting rod bearings that caused the connecting rod to brake, bent push rod, frozen push rod cud be the other reasons.
Sounds like a death rattle;maybe a piston rod.
That's worst case senario. It could be a number of things.
Check your oil level. Maybe you got the wrong stick and oil's not reaching your heads.
If it's an older car, older than an 80 model and a v8,it should handle thicker 30 weight oil.
30 weight is not 10-30 oil. It's alot thicker.
Problem with 30 weight though is that it's sometimes a dog to start in the winter due to the cold.
upgrade your octane of gas or bring it in for a check up
if u consult a mechanic ur cost will not exceed 100$

On a knock, it could be the rod bearings, main bearings, wrist pin, or piston slap. drain some of the oil from the oil pan, try to check for any metal shavings. If you see metal shavings, you probably have a bad rod.
