Question about 2005 Chrysler Sebring Coupe
I have read every manual, and every online column and nothing describes or specifies what exactly to do or where to find the compartment to do it! please help! I don't have the money or time to get it repaired professionally so please reply!
I have a plastic prying tool that I use to pry the face plate up and off the shifter-this usually feels like you are going to break something and some times you will but you have to get under it to find the bulb- you may even have to remove the center console-basically remove any screws you can find and pull stuff up out of the way-look for wires and or a socket under the area of the indicator-should take a 168 or 194 bulb- Denny

sounds like your shift cable was freezing up and finally snapped. check the trans shifter side and see if you can move it if so then this is problem. your car runs a cable not rods. if you pop the center console out you will get a better view there is one or two screws at back of console in cupholders and it should come out

Start at the front towards the winshield with a very small flat headed screwdriver. Getting under the lip of the light cover in the front pop the 2 front clip down in the front. Do Not do this on the seat side or you brake the clip that turn the light on/off. After poping the front down, side out towards winshield. The blub removes by turning counterclockwise. Blub is a 578

I have 2002 Cruiser, not sure if it's the same configuration. Here's what I did:
Remove the Console: Slide front seats all the way back and recline them all the way to get the armrests out of the way. Pull the emergency brake ALL the way up. Set the gear shift in neutral. Remove the 4 screws in the cup holders front and rear. Remove the rear window controller (pry out gently), then squeeze the tab and pull out each of the 2 connectors. I also have a 12v socket at the front of the console - squeeze the blue tab and pull gently. The console should be free and should lift straight up with a little coaxing.
Remove the Gear Shift indicator assembly: You MIGHT be able to remove the light bulb without doing this, but I couldn't. With a T10 torx screwdriver, remove the 4 screws in each corner. Lift the assembly up as far as practical (a couple inches). The bulb socket under the PRND21 indicator has 2 very small tabs on each side that no normal-sized human being can squeeze together - I pried the bulb socket out of the white 'shroud' with a screwdriver at each tab location (2).
Pull on the black socket. The socket rotates freely and is NOT the normal "turn a quarter turn and it's out" type socket. (That'd be too easy!) The bulb is a standard interior auto bulb. Replace it and reverse the procedure to reinstall. About 30 minutes for this job.
