What is the timing setting on a 2000 ford ranger 3.0 v6

The timing belt syncs everything in your motor to work at the same time, the spark plug ignites, the turns the piston, then turns the cam then turns the transmission...all have a certain timing that each one needs to take place and if that is out of whack your car won't work properly, timing belts should be changed every 50k miles. most likely won't be able to do it on your own because the engine mounts need to me removed in order to get a new belt on and you need a timing light as well. Spend the 400 - 500 bucks to have someone do it, if it breaks it could cost around 1200

I dont think its the motor but it sounds like maybe something inside the timing belt let go, when you do the timing belt did you replace the tensioner and pulley, if not then maybe one of the idler pulleys for the belt went bad, or it may just be a bad ignition coil or fuel pump. i would have the computer scanned first to see if there are any codes. the codes are very helpful as they will tell you if something has failed like a coil. 140,000 miles is not alot for a camry and i dont think its a bad engine. good day.

I'm going to guess TIMING BELT. Fairly common with this engine. Thankfully, they are a "NON-interference" motor so it didn't do any damage when the belt snapped. Just need to replace it. Should cost around $300-$400 depending on where you are. Good luck!

you have 1 of 2 things

Parked my Jeep last. Was running fine. This week

It would be wise to check the timing and see if timing belt may have jumped or if it has a chain same thing. Also make sure if vehicle is getting fuel and spark first if this is ok then check the timing belt or chain. have someone spin engine and watch the rotor inside distributor and see if it turns. If not belt or chain is broken. If it does turn make sure it is in proper position. Fuel and Spark and then timing.
