How do i fix a loose gear shifter on a daihatsu charade 2005 model

if it is a floor shift lever , there is a pivot pin in the lever ball / box tower that comes loose and allows for loose selection
on the end of the lever in the box there is a plastic cup that slides across the gate and these have been known to break or wear off

My 1998 ford explorer shift is funny.

If the shifter is sloppy there is a piece that comes loose but usualy breaks under the dash where the shifter cable hooks up the the sterring column. It is a tube that runs from the shifter handle to the cable. Ford will sell you 2-3 pieces, but first get under there and look for lots of play. It may not even put the trans in park if its really loose. You must remove the whole column to fix it. Hope this helps.

My dodge neon stuck in first gear wont go in any other gear its all play

There are bushings in the linkage for the shifter under the car at the shifter and at the trans. Those wear out or the retaining pin clip may have come off and pin got loose.

Shifter has to much play can not get it in park

There are two screws under the steering wheel that are attached to the shifter. take a look under there and move the shifter and you will be able to see the part that im talking about. there are two star head screws on a plate that keep everything moving smoothly. If they are loose this may be your problem.

Shifter lever on steering will not go in gear tight, seems like has alot of play and real loose. how do I correct this problem

This may be similar to the full size Ford shifter. If so, if you can access under the steering column, there is a connection flange on the shift linkage, There are two allen screws attaching the shift lever with a matching flange that attaches to the remainder of the shift linkage. The screws may have come loose and /or fallen out. With a little bit of finesse you'll be able to reinstall and tighten the screws... this should tighten your shifter back up...

I was putting my 1993 F350 turbo diesel automatic transmission in reverse and I felt something break! the shifter is real loose and doesn't shift. There is alot of play in the column shifter. Any...

I have a pickup that this happened with. I just had to look underneath, find the dangling shifter linkage and plug it back in. Make sure the hardware is there and doesn't look stretched.
Good luck!
