Question about 1997 Cadillac DeVille

4 Answers

I have a 97 cadillac deville. Overheats but once I turn the heater on it cools down and doesn't over heat. I have heard this may be a Head Gasket problem. I am hoping not. Does anybody have any tips to help me out? Oh yeah, I have already replaced the thermostat. And I notice that unless I turn my heater on, my fans do not come on. Is this normal?

That still sounds like the thermostat is not working correctly. When your engine gets hot, the fans should kick on to cool down your engine. They run off of what the thermostat tells them to run. So there is two likely causes here to try first, One is to check the thermostat you have and check what the high temp is, the other is to replace the thermostat again if you still have the receipt tell them that the one you have is no good, they will swap it out for free. If that fails then check your oil, and look for a watery substance in the oil that will tell you if you have a blown head gasket, which is still a possiblity

You guys don't know squat, the thermostat is a 195 degree and the fans come on at 230. far to late in my estimation, Northstar doesn't have head gaskets I'm told, however I havent' taken one down. The information I have about the thermostat and fans is from the book.

What can i do my 97 cadillac deville overheats changes thermostate, water pump, radiator and coolant what do i do next?

Check that two fans are turning on when you turn the a/c on or when it gets to 222 deg. F according to the gauge, and shuts off when it gets down to 212 deg. F.

May have a problem with relays, wiring contacts at the relays, fuse, or the relays themselves. Also, the fans on Cadillac Devilles from 1997 have multiple speeds depending on demand for cooling.

In summary, I would check fans.

Air bubbles in the coolant system causing the car to run hot

If you are seeing air bubbles, then the cooling system still has air pockets in it. Loosen the overflow cap and leave it that way for a few days while you drive.Keep the heater turned on at the max heat level. Roll a window down if necessary. Check and top up the overflow bucket daily and top up as necessary. The bubbles should disappear after a few days, then you can tighten the cap. This should also solve your no heat problem. Once the bubbles are gone you can tighten the cap.

If the problem doesn't fix itself in a week, you should have the car looked at for a possible bad head gasket, which would force air into the cooling system. Hope this helps.

2002 cadillac deville. We have replaced: Radiator, water pump, thermostat, cooling fan, coolling relay and still it overheats. I'm getting a cyclinder misfire on the code readout and no clue where to...

The cyl misfire is a clue. most likely you have head gasket leakage. Have a auto shop do a BLOCK-TEST it will test the cooling system for combustion gases.

I have a 1997 cadillac deville and it keep over heating. i have changed the hose out twice and checked for leaks, plus i my fan is working fine...

Check the waterpump and thermostat. When the waterpump doesn't turn, engine heat is not transported to the radiator. When the thermostat doesn't open once warm the same happens - no engine cooling.

The radiator should be hot op top and cooler at the bottom. If it's cold allover then there's no cooling fluid transport

97 deville overheating after having to replace coolant resevoir.Once you let it cool and cycle fluid w/cap off resevoir,it will start forcefully bubbling out and temp.info center reading starts climing...

Gas bubbles in the coolant resevoir while the motor is running indicates a blown head gasket.
If in doubt, take it to a radiator shop and ask for a combustion gas check on your radiator.

I think you need the head gasket replaced.

I have a 97 cadillac deville and water is shooting from my radiator what could that be from?i just bought a new radiator.

That sounds like one of two things. The installer of the one unit had a problem or the unit was bad when he got it, or you have a blown head gasket the the raditior couldn't take the presure and the cap couldn't let if off quick enought or the caps clogged and won't let off like it normally would. If the raditior isnt broken by your mechanics tools most places selling new radiators will provide another good one on showing the reciept some parts stores have a laber claim policy and may help with the cast of the second replacement but you better ask nicely as they don't like peaple to know that they might do this. Some companies don't and small mom and POP stores can't afford to.
