Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

My son has a 1987 ford ranger with an automatic tranny. The rear end blew, and before I replace it I want to make sure the tranny is not bad. I have the driveline disconnected, and when it goes from drive to park, it makes a whining noise. Is this normal?

Please tell me you are NOT running that transmission with the drive shaft removed ??? Re-install the drive shaft, keep the rear end off the ground and then test it... oh and tell your son to stop with the neutral drops !!!

How to replace a valve cover gasket on my 1987 Ford Ranger with a 2.0 L engine

Relatively simple gig. Remove wires from plugs making sure to note which leads to which plug so that firing order is maintained on re-installation, remove vacuum hose from pvc valve, remove six valve cover retaining bolts and remove valve cover. Clean that up making sure there is no residue on gasket mating surface on wither the valve cover itself or the top side of the header. place new gasket in place and replace valve cover torquing bolts to appx. 72-108 inlb. Replace pvc vacuum line followed by plug wires and you\'re set. This is a stripped down version as there will be many hoses and lines in the way but you should just be able to wiggle past these. If you do end up taking anything else out just make sure you remember where and how it connect and you\'ll do fine. Nothing this high up is that terribly sensitive. Good Luck!

I just bought a 1987 ford ranger from an elderly women whos son just died. He had just replaced the head gasket **** didn't get it back running. The engine has spark at all plug but won't start even on...

Sounds like maybe the distributor is off. I run into that alot after that kind of engine work. Reset the distibutor to #1 TDC. I hope that I helped you. Best wishes.
