SOURCE: timing belt diagram 1997 kia sportage 4x4

My scanner isnt working, so i hope this can help you out some...On the left Camshaft..you will a stamp I and E...iI is for intake and E is for exhaust..The I should be up at 12 o'clock and the E should be at 4..you will also have marks on the timing plate behind the camshafts to help you line it up right...Now on the Right Camshaft you will have the same marks, but this time you want the E at 12 and the I at 7 o'clock..And the crankshaft should have a little notch on it, where you can line that up at 12 o'clock with the notch imprint that is on the plate for you..You may have to clean those areas, and use a light, so you can see them..I hope this helps you out..Goodluck...

Take a test light and see if you actually have power at the bulb sockets, if you do, then the problem is with the earth wire, find a bolt or screw nearby and clean it up to bare metal and attatch a new earth cable directly to the existing earth wire with a scotchlock or othyer suitable connector

2001 kia sportage tail lights and dash lights not working. Replaced "tail" fuse blown, keeps blowing.

Sounds like the wiring has a short to ground or the sockets for the lights are shorted out before reaching the bulbs.

Worn hot wire insulation against the negative body can cause this symptom, for example.

2001 kia sportage - head lights don't work, high beam light activiated when ignition is turned on, but no high beam lights either.

Have to change the bulb, as the light on the dash will show on. as the other light still in operation. Or is both not working.

Dash lights don't work

Sounds like its most likely just a blown fuse. It happened to me last week.
In the fuse box down on the driverside floor, pull the one that is on the top row closest too you (I think it shows for 'tail' on the diagram.
There should be a fuse puller in the fuse box as well as a replacement fuse down on the bottom of the box. If not, they're easy to find.
