We spent 1400.00 22 months ago to have a water pump replaced now we're told there is a leak around the seal. How long should a water pump last with less than averge miles put on it?

At least as long as the first one. I have replaced pumps that lasted 15 years. You can tell by the gasket if it is original or not. But $1400 for a pump. I would call around and find another shop.

2001 Corolla water pump several replacements

Call your dealer & give them your VIN number. I believe your water pump is defective & Toyota dealer will fix it for free. Bring in your receipts and see if you can recoup your costs on the other water pumps. Make sure you register for car for other recall information with the dealership.
According to the website:
"Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling 2.77 million vehicles around the world for a water pump problem and a steering shaft defect that may result in faulty steering - the latest in a spate of quality woes for Japan's top automaker."

Of those vehicles, some 620,000 spanning five hybrid models, including the Prius, have a defective water pump in addition to the steering shaft defect. Those vehicles were produced from 2001 to 2010 in Japan, and from 2003 to 2011 overseas. Another 10,000 vehicles with only a pump problem are also being recalled."

95 ford conversion van with a 351 engine. replaced the radiator, water pump and thermostat last year. The water pump leaked when cold and finally replaced water pump and thermostat again. Got the leak...

If you didn't do a thorough cooling system flush with the radiator replacement last year, then i would say you may have excessive build up of rust, scale and other debris. This will certainly clog up a new radiator quickly. You may still have a restriction. I would do a good flushing, including REVERSE flushing until water runs clear. This should help... Good luck, my friend.

Leaking water pump

A lot of water pumps are designed to leak when they are about to fail or have failed. But, the water pump could be okay and just leaks past the gasket.

Either way, replace the water pump. A water pump only lasts for so long and replacing it would be the most cost effective route to take seeing you are going to have to take it off anyway to put a new gasket on it.

if you see water pump is leaking it can be water seal worn out so you neet new kit to replace old part or you can find complate water pump.
If you replce the water pump last days it can be gasket or lose bolts.
