Question about 1996 Isuzu Hombre

1 Answer

1996 Isuzu hombre dies while driving. There is no acceleration, gauges all turn off, and power steering goes out. It will eventually start no problem after 30 mins or so. The fuel pump has been replaced. I have read some threads about an oil pressure sensor that will kill the engine if it gets too high... I have noticed that it typically dies when the oil pressure is higher than 60 PSI. Here's the kicker... this problem only happens once every 6 months and every time I want to get it fixed, it won't do it for the mechanics, so I don't think they believe me. Any suggestions??

You should check with Isuzu if high oil pressure will indeed cause a shutdown. In some applications, maybe many of them, the oil pressure sensor is what keeps the fuel pump running after the engine is running.
You will need it diagnosed when it happens for sure. At that time, need to check for spark (ignition failure), and gas (is the pump still turning on?). Shutting down while driving is computer related, usually it's the ignition system or a fuel problem. Check with Isuzu about the oil pressure sensor. Let us know. I would like to know.

SOURCE: Fuel Gauge reads empty, but tank IS full

the float in your gas tank seems to have water in it....water is heavier than gas, that's why gas floats on top of water....try putting something like HEAT in it to dry up the water in your tank....

SOURCE: Isuzu Hombre pickup, 2.2L Vortec, Won't Start.

You need four things for an engine to run. 1. fuel 2. spark 3. compression 4. timing (spark at the right time. By your post it seems you have fuel and spark and you probably have compression unless you blew a head gasket. That leaves the timing. Check the timing and/or the timing belt or chain whichever you have.

Sounds to me like a bad battery, however the alternator could be bad as well if it's not charging the battery enough to allow for amperage to crank. Auto Parts Forum
