Are you sure you didn't bend valves when the keyway sheared off ? Do a compression test and get back to me with the results.

Stalled at a light, wont start. pumping gas pedal with no fuel smell. Turns over, lots of spark. Changed fuel pump, but this did not remedy problem....what else could it be?

The woodruff key for crankshaft may have sheared so the camshaft wont turn, or the timing chain tensioner may have failed.A compreesion test is advised.

Does the crankshaft have a woodruff key for the harmonic balancer?

hi this depends on what harmonic balancer you are inquiring about, normal balancers do have a woodruff key,but the pulley type harmonic balancer only bolts to a cam hub on what ever it is connected to, such as water pump, etc etc... hope this helps

I have a 1994 Buick Park Ave. I was recently changing my crankshaft pulley, I didn't torque the pulley correctly and it sheared off the woodruff key. It's stuck in there pretty bad. I've had three...

Oops. chisels, punches, picks and drimmel and still couldn't get it out.

I would think about pulling the engine out and putting it on a stand to work on.

Sorry this had to happen to you.

Crankshaft Woodruff Key Removal

You are correct, this key does drive both. While I have never tried to remove the keway with out both pulley and lower sprocket you may be able to (my gut says no but anything is worth trying once) I'd position the keyway at the 12 o'clock postion and with a good pair of needle nose pliers see if the key will roll out as you pull up and away with it. If it will not you'll of course have to remove the front of the engine and pull the timing belt, if over 60K miles on belt go ahead and replace with new.

I hope this may have assited and good luck!

My engine broke the cam timing gear bolt and sheared the keyway.this happened while driving on the freeway. Is this an interference engine, and is the keyway part of the camshaft? How difficult is this to...

sounds like you had an oil feed problem to the head and the camshaft seized ,could have been low on oil ?? not sure i think it might have a keyway on cam but cant remember if its part of the cam casting or a woodruff key .if it was part of the camshaft casting then this would account for damage but to break the bolt as well then i would look further ,to be totally honest without the engine in front of me i cannot diagnose what caused the failure .
