In case of mice, pull the panel out unplugging it check for 12v with a TEST LIGHT. Follow the ones going to the fuse box, i belive there glass type fuses and a little glass one gmc

Can the glass fascia be removed from the instrument cluster on a lexus IS 220D


Pull the cluster out and then remopve the screws that attach the lens to the instrument panel body.

the back of the cluster has a circut panel on it . look for a crack in it. can be fixed with soder

Instrument panel works off and on also when this happens battery goes dead


Do a google search for "1998 voyager instrument lcuster solder" and you will find an abundance of posts regarding the soldered joints on the main wiring harness connector on the back of your instrument cluster. If the behaviour is at all erratic and unpredictable, or hitting the dash makes the gauges come back to life, then you are about 99.9% sure it is the solder problem. It takes about 8 minutes to remove the instrument cluster (okay maybe 15), and about 2 minutes to remove the circuit board. By examining the solder joints of the main connector with a magnifying glass, you will probably see cracked or corroded solder on them. Briefly reheat each solder joint with a soldering iron to re-flow the solder. Your erratic gauge behaviour should now be history.

1999 Fiord F-150 with intermittent odometer lights sometimes the odometer light is on and other times not. Not related to rough roads or weather please help


The digital odometer has some cases of cold solder joints.

If you are good with taking the instrument cluster out, and using a soldering iron, it is somewhat time consuming, but can be done in an afternoon.

1. Remove the headlamp switch. There are large metal clips holding it in.
2. Remove the plastic U shaped cover over the steering wheel. Spring clips hold it down, I find the 99-03 MY easiest to remove the knee panel first.
3. the plastic trim around the instrument cluster. There are blots & spring clips holding it in ( 1 is behind the headlamp switch panel removed ).
At this point the instrument cluster bolts should be visible. Use a towel over the steering wheel column, and remove the cluster.

Remove the screws holding the metal plate on the back of the cluster.

Looking at the back, there is a multi wire ( ribbon cable) from the odometer gauge to the cluster. Carefully remove the ribbon cable, and you can remove the circuit board from the gauges.
On the back side of the circuit board, where the ribbon cable is attached, you should see some cold solder joints for the pins sticking up. One of these might have cracked, need a magnifying glass to be sure of which one. Heat up a soldering iron, and touch up the cracked solder joint.
Put back together ( up to the metal shield part ) and test. Should have done the trick, else go back checking for more cold solder joints.

This sounds back, but it is not. Just a bit time consuming.

94 T&C instrument panel quit...


Take out the instrument cluster, there is a plug in the middle of the cluster in the back. Several phillips screws hold the circuit board to the cluster. If you look real close there will be cracked solder joints where these pins are soldered to the board. resolder any pins that are suspect. you may have to get a good magnifying glass and good light to see it.

Doesn,t start


If you notice that your gauges do not move (i.e. gas gauage) when you turn the key to the on posistion... it is cracks on the back of the dashboard instrument panel. My vehicle would ocaissionally not start (super frustrating!!!) and I'd wait an hour or a day and it was fine. Best way to check is to smack the glass in front of the instrument panel. That was my litmus test. 10 months later and an hour taking the dash apart i found the cracked solder spots, i resolered them put it bak together and no proble for the past two months!!! This is a huge problem with Dodge...

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IS READING NO BUS AND NONE OF THE GAUGES ARE WORKING


The red electrial connector on the main circuit board (of instrument cluster panel) has one and/or several soldered pins that have broken away or become loose at the soldered area. The soldered connections may look o.k., however, under a magnifying glass you can see a circular crack all around the protruding soldered pin. Fire up the soldering iron- use a fine point, add a tad of new rosin core solder and fix the crack. There may be trouble codes associated with this condition: P1695 and/or P1698; when you go to pull the Instument cluster out of the dash, jiggle to wire connector at the back of the IC with key 'on', and look at the odometer; if it flashes on/off, this is most likely the problem
