Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a Rover 414, and the SRS light came on. I've tried resetting it via removing the battery and waiting 10 minutes, but to no good. Could you please tell me where the sensor is located.

Srs is supplimetal restraint system. Your could have a seat switch unplugged, air bag module could be bad, or unplugged. Needs to be scanned by a qualified person or dealership

SOURCE: Can't get car out of park!!

This may seem like a silly solution but it's worth a try if it gets you out of this jam. I believe the Kia has a safety feature where it won't let you shift the car out of park unless the break peddle is fully depressed. Try stomping on the break peddle while you start the car. Then see if it will let you shift out of park. If this doesn't work try pumping the break peddle a few times and try it again. If this doesn't work check the fuse box. Maybe the fuse for the actuator in the gear shift lever that lets you take it out of park is burnt out. I hope this helps you out.

Alarm system 96 land rover discovery

You can't remove alarms or bypass them, you have to fix them.

Disconnect the battery fully for at least 2 hours.
Hold the negative and positive leads together for 5 minutes.
PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, but not turned on.
Connect the Positive lead to the battery.
Connect the Negative lead in one swift movement.
Wait 15 minutes for the ECM to re-pair the chips in the key and the ignition key.

Srs light

Contrary to popular belief, the dashboard SRS light CAN be reset without the need for a Rover dealer! All that is needed is a paperclip.
  1. Directly under the steering wheel, just under the bottom of the dashboard and above the pedals, there should be a wide grey connector.
  2. A few inches towards the driver's door from this, there should be a horizontal 2-pin yellow connector (with nothing connected to it).
  3. Bend the paperclip into a u-shape, and push the ends into the 2-pin yellow connector (shorting the pins).
  4. Turn on the ignition, and the SRS light should illuminate for a few seconds and then go out.
  5. Now pull out the paperclip (but not completely out), breaking the link.
  6. After a couple more seconds, the SRS light should illuminate again.
  7. Now push the paperclip back in, making the link again.
  8. After a couple of seconds, the SRS light should blink twice.
  9. Remove the paperclip, and then switch off the ignition.

That resets the SRS system and next time you start the car, the lamp should be off.

The above all needs to be carried out fairly quickly as you only get a few seconds between each step.

Note:
Because you can't see the yellow connector and the SRS light at the same time, it's really a two-person job.

Important:
Obviously this only applies if there is no fault! If there is a fault, the light will illuminate again and will therefore need to be looked at by a Rover dealer.

This procedure is pretty tricky, but it is 100% correct.

I've changed front brake pads, rotors and sensor on my 2005 x3 BMW but the indicator lights still on. Ive tried the solution "turn key to #2 position" and wait for ever for the light to go...

Hi amfulbodmass,

If you have tried to reset the light leaving the key on in position #2 then I would recommend performing a battery reset. Sometimes if you go a while with the brake warning on, it can cause a temporary lock up of the system. Before disconnecting the Negative battery cable for 10 seconds just remember you will need to reset your clock etc. After the battery reset, you may have to once again leave the key on in position #2 for a few minutes before the reset occurs.

The SRS light will go off. Tell how to turn it off.

Hi, you cannot turn it off rather you have to reset it by following the instruction below...
  1. Turn ignition switch off, remove service connector cover.
  2. Connect (jump) the MES (Memory Erase Signal) connector (this is 2 pin connector wrapped on yellow plugged in the front of the under dash fuse box).
  3. Turn ignition switch on.
  4. SRS light will come on for 6 secs then go out, remove the jumper within 4 secs after the light goes out..
  5. The SRS light will come on again, reconnect the jumper within 4 secs after the light has come on.
  6. The SRS light will go off, remove the jumper with in 4 secs after the light has gone off.
  7. The SRS light will blink 2 times indicating the memory is reset.
  8. Turn the ignition switch to off and wait for 10 seconds.

Battery was low and put in new battery, problem SRC Light stays on how can I reset the SRC light?

I'm guessing you mean the SRS light, yes. When you have a bad battery the battery voltage can drop below 10 volts. The SRS unit detects this voltage loss and set a DTC (diagnostic trouble code) for an internal SRS unit failure. You have to erase the DTC memory. You'll need an SCS service connector tool (P/N 07PAZ-0010100) You can order one from your local honda dealer. Don't worry its not more than $10. Then you'll have to find the MES 2pin connector located in the upper right hand corner of the drivers underdash fuse box. It can be gray, green or yellow in color. 1.)Turn the ignition switch off. 2.)Unplug the MES connector from the fuse box and plug your SCS special tool into the MES connector. 3.) Turn the ignition switch on. 4.) The (red) SRS light in the dash will come on for 6 seconds and then go off. Remove the SCS tool from the MES (2P) connector within 4 sec. after the SRS light went off. 5.) The SRS light comes on again. Reconnect the SCS tool to the MES (2P) connector within 4 seconds after the SRS light came on. 6.) The SRS light goes off. Remove the SCS tool from the MES (2P) connector within 4 sec. 7.) The SRS light indicates that the memory is erased by blinking twice. 8.) Turn the ignition switch off and wait ten seconds. You may have to do this procedure a few time to get the steps correct. If this sounds to complicated I'm sure your local Honda dealer would be happy to reset the light for you for no charge. Just let them know that the battery was recently replaced and you think that the SRS light came on due to low battery voltage. -Hope this helps:)
