Well , all A/T tranny\'s are a concern, lots of part there.

and like $3000 to fix a dead one.

big concern.

ever do the service on it, or ignore it...?

if car is old, (it is) and no value to you,(many its not)

then drive it like you stole it.

or if is a value.? do the service.

if the tranny slips the clutch plates or bands burn up. dont drive it if it slips.

why not run the scan codes on the tranny to find out what failed

all that is covered in the FSM, or at alldata.com

id do a full flush on it, with filter... i do that every 50k, like religion.

it\'s been said,1mil times. if the tranny was never serviced, and now you do the fresh ATF (full flush) will cause all that junk in it to break up and clog

the tiny spots and its the end zone.

so , what is best is never known, due to that, folly.

note how EPA says dont change AFT and now they all fail.

funny that..... the endless story......

so scan the TCM for errors. as the FSM says,

my be its just the TCC lock up failing and just a cheap relay bad.

no scans, no joy.

never ignore the light, its asking you to scan it and get the codes

get them and post them.

SOURCE: 2000 Accord LX, 4 Cyl. check engine light and error codes P1457, P1739

A very common late 90's code, P1457 is a failure in one of the evap system solenoid valves. There are 2 culprits, the Vent Control Valve & the 2 Way Bypass Valve. So, start working with those and see if you can get the 1457 code off of it.

I also looked around about the 1739 code as well which a transaxle error. However, I've found that there has been more than enough reported cases of problems of the such. Take a look at this link, and do a little reading.

I hope this helps you out.

SOURCE: My 2001 Honda Accord will not start, do I need a new starter?

if you turn the key and engine fails to budge ,are you getting a clicking sound as if their is life from your startermotor ,if so maybe your solenoid is sticking which is part of your starter. give it a tap with a hammer .if it doesnt cure the problem than your starter is faulty. or even select nuetral on your transmission and try then.

No Reverse and the fluid is dirty and smells funny.

Sounds like you blew out your reverse belt/gear in the transmission. Probably going to need a transmission rebuild/replacement.

I have a 2004 BMW X5, i was driving up a hill when the trans failsafe prog light came on, it has done this before & I was told pull over turn engine off, wait 5min at it will go, which it did. Though...

The transmission has gone into limp mode. My Boomer done the same thing' if it wont reset itself i think the only option is a BMW dealer to faultfind. Very complicated computor controlled transmission beyond any novice im afraid.

93 Honda accord will on move in reverse. When running the rear of engine rises. could problem be something other than transmission.

sounds as if you have one or more wheels locked up possible brake caliper locked up with rear of engine raising up tells me trans is engaging but cannot turn axles and you may have broken motor/trans mount but would jack up each wheel at a time and try and turn with vehicle out of park and no brakes applied (on level ground please we want to be safe i think you will find your problem

Find transmission fluid stick

on the passenger side, down near the bottom of engine compartment, you'll see a small yellow loop handled dipstick. that's the trans dipstick. ok assuming its an automatic. manuals don't have dipstick, it has a fill plug on the side of transmission

Engine Lurching in Cold Weather on Highway

I recommend a trans fluid and filter change first. It definately sounds like the problem is in the trans. If it was any sort of engine component you would have had a check engine light on.

Gear fluid

Most automatic transmissions do not have a filler plug or cap. The transmission fluid is added by using a long-neck funnel, which is placed in the tube the dipstick for the transmission sits in. Be sure to test the level while the engine is running, with the transmission in either park or neutral. Be very careful not to over fill the transmission, and make sure that you have the right kind of transmission fluid for your vehicle.
