You got the wrong carb or you need to remove the needed parts from the old carb or buy them

if it bolts straight on and all the linkages hook up then there will be no problem
otherwise the retro fit gets very costly mechanically and fuel wise

Have had a new clutch fitted now the 4x4 want engage


Hi Kevin:
When they replaced the clutch, they may have removed the transmission and disconnected the shift linkages. When it was re-assembled, I would suspect that one of the linkage components was not re-connected correctly. If the work was done in a shop I would recommend having a friendly chat with the owner/manager about resolving the problem. Odds are they should be very good about it. If you and some buddies did it in the back yard, it's back on the jacks and check the linkages.
Work Safe!!! Chock it and block it. Don't need to drop it!

Idles, automatic chokes, and kick down idles must be adjusted. You cannot just install a carburetor rebuilt or new without making idle and linkage adjustments to match the engine requirements. Does it have an idle solenoid adjustment and kick down adjustment, double barreled?. Did you get new springs for linkage? Have a mechanic make the adjustments. Find an older mechanic that knows carburetors.

no
and the word fits means , NOTHING.
bolts on, (the 4 bolts align ok, only)
passes smog test.s
runs car perfect in all temperatures and altitudes.
choke works.
All vacuum parts work.
linkage fits perfect as does the a/T kickdown cable.
and the list goes on.....

why not post symptoms and not do wild guessing, on parts swaps
btw , parts swaps on cars is the most complex topic there is.
you never stated both engine sizes.

Hi Pathernis, You have forgotten to mention which vehicle you're working on and consequently I'm giving you broad instructions for working on carbs. Please note that if distortion has occurred between the throttle body, (the part with the butterfly's and throttle linkages) and the float chamber, a flat spot will occur during acceleration. The most usual cause of this damage is the removal of a carburetor from an engine that has not cooled sufficiently. If you are asking about the needle and seat assembly (and I'm not sure you are) the seat fits into the top housing of the carburetor assembly. It is fitted with a gasket washer (usually copper or aluminium) between it and the housing. It should be screwed in firmly with a large screw driver or by using a socket (tube) spanner if manufactured with the required faces. The needle will then be fitted into the seat and followed by the float. One of the most important settings on the carburetor is the float level adjustment, so make sure you get it correct. If it is too tight, either there will be no fuel or too little going into the float chamber, if it is too loose, flooding will result. The other needles are for mixture control which basically control the idle. For carburetors with single choke there will be one for double or multiple chokes, the primary chokes (the smaller) will have one each. Fit the springs onto the screws so that they are between the body of the carb and rest on the shoulder of the screw. Screw the mixture control screws in lightly until contact is made, but do not force further. When fitted and tightened, unscrew three and a half turns. Before fitting fitting the top housing (usually referred to as the trumpet), fit the replacement gasket and pour into the float chamber enough fuel to fill one third, which will obviously raise as the float attached to the trumpet is lowered into the chamber. (Some carbs have the float fitted into the chamber and not to the trumpet) Fit all hold down screws before tightening any, making sure the lengths are correct before fitting. Once all screws are fitted, tighten from the centre where the carburetor is narrowest, working outwards in a spiral pattern. When fully assembled re-fit to the intake manifold using new gasket. Final tuning of mixture idle control is carried out after confirming ignition timing is correct. Hope this is of some help.Regards John

It may not suit your engine expecially if the engine is a different capacity and in this case the carby jets need to be change or tuned to give the right combustion fuel mixture..

How to fit a seat arosa automatic inhibitor????


Yes i have worked on these cars but never seen a auto version as yet ?if you get a new one then you will see where it has to fit as some are inside the gearbox and some on the linkage but wherever it is it will be the same as a VW polo and one i done on a old golf was under the mechanism in the cab for the gearchange and wasnt too difficult to change

I am going from a qudrajet carb to an Edelbrock 600 with manual choke. I am not sure how the linkage switches over. I am working on a 1985 chevy 4x4 with a sb 350


If your staying with the stock intake manifold the edelbrock wont fit unless you install a adapter plate.And i would advise you not to install it will not seal properly.I would install a edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor as a matched set.You can purchase a edelbrock carburetor and intake manifold from advance auto parts that's designed for your vehicle.

I have a 1978 Olds Cutlass just replaced the fuel pump and it will fire up but will not stay started. It was running for a day but would stall when I stopped. It would not stall if the car was in neutral....


You can adjust the carburetor with a straight blade screwdriver.Remove the air cleaner and have someone push the gas pedal,you'll see a lever connected to the carb moving back and forth,this is the accelerator linkage.While looking straight at the linkage you'll see a screw between the linkage and the carb.Using the straight blade screw driver turn clockwise a quarter turn.Replace the air cleaner and start the engine.The RPMs should be higher, now hold the brake pedal and put it in gear.Stays running,your good to go,otherwise give her another quarter turn.Now this is a "get-by"solution,you need to give some attention to your engine by giving it a tune up!That means changing:distributor cap&rotor,spark plugs&wires,carburetor rebuild,oil change and lube.Oh yeah,tighten down the four 1/2" bolts holding down the carburetor too!You could have a vacuum leak under the carb or even a vacuum line disconnected.This will also cause the low idle speed!Good luck!
