Check for a serious leak like at the oil filter , sump plug loose , rear main seals and crankshaft pullet seal and pcv valve not working correctly. Check for leaks at rocker cover gaskets.

Most reverse gears on manual transmissions are square cut which makes them whine when engaged, all forward gears are helically cut and are therefore silent in comparison. Do you think the noise you experience is down to gear whine? The drop of oil could be a partly worn half shaft oil seal. Oil seals tend to be a bit stiff when cold and occasionally but after warming up they resume flexibility and become oil tight. Determine that it is in fact gear oil and not engine oil running down the back of the engine from the PCV or head gasket. Determine that the respective oil levels are where they should be on the dip sticks. Monitoring the oil consumption/loss on the dip stick is the critical thing to do over the longer term. If the loss of oil, between 10,000 service intervals, is low, say about half a pint, this will be not even enough to take it to the MINIMUM on the oil stick. When you change the oil put in enough to take it to the MAXIMUM level. Often it is much cheaper to overlook very minor oil loss rather than face the cost, effort and disruption to have a cylinder head gasket replaced.

My greetings to all Iam from Saudi Arabia and bought 2005 ford free star sport with 4.2 L and i do not know how to get the manual and how many for oil for changing oil with filtter . thank you

you should change the oil every 4000 to 5000 km in that hot climat your van should take a little more then 4 liters of oil so buy 6 liters oil filter part # should be on the filter you could take it off the old one if your doing this yourself drain oil put new filter in and add 4 liters of oil wait 5 minutes check oil level on dip stick add half liter at a time and check oil level again wait few minutes in between for oil to drop down in oil pan for proper readings on dip stick.repeat ontil oil level shows in the hatch marks on dip stick DONT OVER FILL. also fill oil filter with oil before instaling the new one to insure that oil will flow trought engine at startup without having to fill oil filter first leaving engine to run without oil until this happends internaly on its own you may have a liter left after your done ,you can use this for top ups inbetween oil changes .you should also check and replace your air filter at this time .

The oil has been topped up in my renault laguna and is roughly an inch over the maximum line on the dip stick. i have been driving it and now my antipollution warning light has come on??

there are several reasons why you dont want excessive oil in the engine .. first if the level is high enough then the rods and crankshaft can dip into it .as they spin .. this whips the oil into a foam which is no longer a good lub .. the oil foam may get into the upper cylinders causing it to be burned which can contaminate the CAT converter .. it can foul plugs and in general damage the engine .. air contaminated oil does not lubracate or cool the rod bearings properly .. the air in the oil can "crack" (denaturize) under the pressure of the valve lifters, beaings and other places where high pressure exists .. this further damages the oil ... you definately dont want excessive oil ..

When do I add Oil?

Really you should not have to add oil. But to find out have jeep on level surface and use the dip stick to check. Check with car off, pull dip stick out and wipe off and reinsert, Pull back out and read the stick only add if it is low. Do not over fill.

The van must be on level ground while checking. after adding the correct amount of oil making sure to prime the oil filter before installing run the van for approx 30 seconds turn off and recheck after 1 min.
