Question about 2001 Volkswagen Passat
I locked my keys in the trunk and cannot seem to find anyway to open the trunk. It is full of luggage and not trunk lock release. HEELP
Wind the back down with a coat hanger then go in through the back seat,this will teach you to keep a spare key under the car in a secret location wrapped in a oily rag then a plastic bag .Or am i so old to think of such a thing that i remember valve radios in cars made of metal

hi, i recently bought a used 2001 jetta and had the same problem...auto locks, sunroof, windows, interior lights, trunk switch on door all stopped working all of a sudden. replaced fuse #14 and everything works like magic again...

I had the same problem and I did the following:
- demount the plastic cover of the trunk (2 screws)
- locked and unlocked the trunk, while it was open to understand the system (it's really easy)
- lubricate all relevant parts
- checked the functionality
- put the plastic cover back on
Overall it took me 15 min. It worked on my beetle. No guarantee. I'm not a technician.

If your lock actuator engages (you can hear the sound it makes) with the remote/electric button on the door, but the trunk doesn't open then the problem is likely a broken plastic arm that the electric assembly pushes. You can see it if you unscrew the inside cover from the trunk lid and try the remote. I started having the same issue with VW Jetta 2002 GLS that was rear-ended 8 months ago. My guess is the cracked plastic finally gave out in the cold weather.

SOURCE: 99 passat doors don't lock right
Fixed it! Four broken wires which had corroded through because of water getting in. Reconnected with suitable wires = all works again! The wires are near the control unit under the LH floor. You will see tell-tale blue corrosion from copper wires seaping through the insulation tape.

try disconnecting the battery for few minutes,then reconnect and try.ps: make sure you know your radios security code before disconnecting the battery.good luck
