Question about Mercedes-Benz E320

2 Answers

2001 MB E320 Sedan About a month ago car stalled when idling at a stop light, car in drive. Took 10 min to get it started. No problem for 2 weeks. Now car is stalling every 2-3 days. Use of starter fluid usually gets the car to start right away. Mechanic can't find a problem unless he lets it sit until it does it again. Looking for suggestions as I can't have my car sitting and idling at garage for 3 days.

Hello, It's possible that you have a bad fuel pump relay. You can locate this relay adjacent to the battery under the rear seat cushion. It sits by the side of the rear fuse holder. You can also ck the fuses while you are there.
The other post mentioned that his car would not start and would not unlock with remote. This car probably has a driver recognition system in it that can only be turned off with the remote. Try putting new batteries in your remote and try again.

Engine Stall

I don't really agree with the IAC idle air control valve however, you can test it by unplugging it while the car is running; if the valve is bad (assuming no bad wires or pcm problems) the engine will not change it's sound. On the other hand if it's good the engine will sputter and have an erratic idle but probably wont die...........
A common culprit of your cars condition is often a bad crank shaft or cam shaft position sensor; for most vehicles they are easy to change and only $10 or so. There are tests that can be done to check the parts and that another topic. The crank shaft position sensor is where I would start. And, as another person said the fuel filter is a good thing to replace; could be your problem, and it probably needs it anyway. Good luck and try and keep from throwing parts at her; work the problem don't let it work you.

I have a 2001 spyder 3.0 v6. Had a new battery installed bout a month ago. Had it inspected yesterday. Drove home and everything is ok. The next day replaced the 15 amp cigarette lighter fuse and fog...

Sounds like your IAC(idle air control) motor needs to be replaced. its on the bottom side of the throttle body. there are 3 phillips head screws holding it on.

it looks like:

Idled high, replace IAC and PCV, now idles low and stalls

On modern day cars the parts that get fitted need to be adapted to the ECM using a decent diagnostic machine. I bet that this was not done and the car is now suffering as a result.
Something to try is resetting the ECU, simply disconnect battery for 10 minutes, reconnect, then start car from cold *without touching gas pedal* and leave idling until the rad fan comes on (this resets all the base idle settings) then take it for a drive - hopefully will solve the problem

As the post said earlier they went to a ford shop.... I suggest to have your vehicle inspected elsewhere. maybe have your o rings replaced and your fuel system cleaned.

Rough idle, stalling

You must get the system scanned for fault codes, sounds like the electronic throttle control has a failure.

98 Isuzu Trooper stalls on cold start, idle issues..

I had the same issue on my 99 Trooper.

It would usually start when completely cold, but idle around 2k RPM.
It would drive fine. But if I shut it down, ran into a store, and came back out, it would start but immediately idle.
Had to ride the gas a little to get it into gear.
The Check Engine light has been going on and off for 6 months or so.

I took this to my local trusted repair shop (no Isuzu dealers within 200 miles).
The diagnosed the light, and found that the Intake Gaskets were bad or leaking.
The idling problem was related to the car not being able to control the amount of air coming in.

They replaced the Intake gaskets by the next day, and I haven't had a problem since. And no more check engine light, which has been on half a year.

Here's some details from my bill:
(1) Intake Gasket set $107.95
Misc materials $21.00
2.1 hours of Labor

The total cost to me was $345.00, and I definately don't feel gipped.

My saturn 2001 stalls at stop lights when in idle

You can't afford to not take it to a Saturn dealer. Look at all the worry your going through not to mention possibly lost time from your job. I had the same problems with my 98 SL1. First time it went to the Saturn dealer they diagnosed a bad coolent tempurature sensor. The car was fine for about 2 months then it would start and then stall bfore I could get out of the driveway. This time the dealer diagnosed a bad crank position sensor. That was 3 years ago and the car has run well since. I believe your car could have one of these problems (maybe both). Take it to the dealer. They probably see Saturns with these problems every week and will know how to fix them.
