Question about Toyota Corolla

1 Answer

2001 toyota corolla wont stay on...

I am trying to get my Toyota running... I've replaced the spark plugs, battery, air filter, and my car has plenty of oil and gas. The problem is this: When I turn the key, the car starts, but if I don't keep my foot on the pedal, the car shuts itself off. I have ruled out the alternator and starter being the problem, unless I missed something obvious, but I'm not very car savoy, so I don't want to get screwed by any mechanics.

If Biggy1 has described it right, I think when you remove the WIRE to the spark plug ( not the plug itself ) and oil jumps out, there is a cylindrical seal that needs replacing and one does not need to even remove the cylinder head.
I have the same problem with my corolla. On the other hand if Biggy meant when removing the SPARK PLUG oil was on the contacts....

clogged injectors you need to put cleaner in the fuel to help get dirt and grit out of them some times (every 3 months).
I am assuming you are saying it will turn over but not fire and run when cold?

EIther the IAC or throttle postion sensor is dirty or faulty. Or leaky vacuum hose somewhere. As long as it is not missing and running weird, then you may have bad coil packs.
You can go to autozone.com and register for free online repair manual for your vehicles if you need it.

My 1993 Toyota Corolla stalls and will not stay running.

If changing the battery does not solve problem, or only solves it until the battery dies then have the alternator tested. I have noticed on several occasions with a couple of my vehicles that at times of very high moisture in the air they do not stay running, once the humidity goes down they are fine.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Stalling of car uphill suggests that the fuel filter is clogged. You can try to unclog it by removing it. If you found it very hard to clean then i'll suggest you to replace it. Please follow this procedure--
  • Open the hood and look on the driver's side to find the fuel filter. It is a somewhat small canister attached to the fuel line.

  • Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait 90 seconds or more as a precaution against disturbing the air bags. Remove the protective shield around the fuel filter. If the air cleaner hose and cap and the charcoal canister are in the way, remove them as well.

  • Loosen the lower flare nut slowly to allow all the pressure out. Take off the banjo fitting and the two metal gaskets. Next disconnect the fuel line from the fuel filter. Finally, take the filter out of the mounting bracket.

  • Slide the new fuel filter into the mounting bracket and hold it with the arrow pointing toward the engine. Place a new metal gasket on each end. Attach them with the union bolt.

  • Tighten the flare nut on the lower connection. Put the charcoal canister back, along with the air cleaner hose and air cleaner cap if you removed them. Reattach the protective shield and hook up the negative battery cable. Check for leaks when you start your car.

It is suggested to replace the fuel filter every 30,000 miles, or with every tune up, to keep your Corolla in good running order.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Rylee

2000 toyota corolla ve engine will run at idle but when you step on gas engine dies if you let off gas it stay running at idle got good fuel pressure good spark.i changed ecm changed fuel pump spark plugs...

Check the throttle cable to see if it's binding or catching on anything. If not, check the throttle body. If it's gummed up with carbon and not moving freely, you could be trying to add air that's simply not getting into the engine, while the computer throws a bunch of fuel in to match what it thinks it a ton of air.

Hope this helps.
