I checked my compression and # 4 has no compression at all, and it looks like the piston is not dropping all the way.

check engine compression and get back to me, we'll go from there

Do a compression test on the vehicle. I've seen the issue several times in escorts, and my bet is your cylinder head is dead. Your cylinder head is made of cast aluminum, and it's only so durable. What happens, is the valve seats break away, and drop the pieces of metal into your cylinders. If you don't repair it right away, it can serious engine damage. Your cylinder compression should be no less than 100 psi on any cylinder, with the lowest cylinder not being less than 75% of the highest cylinder. My guess is you will have at least 1 cylinder with almost no compression at all.

As I stated, I've seen this issue personally over 50 times on escorts, and your cylinder head is dead. I knew you would have almost zero, or zero compression on at least 1 cylinder. Your valve seats on that cylinder have broken out of your cylinder head, and have dropped the metal shavings on to your piston. Therefore, your valve cannot seat on the cylinder head (it's a wide open hole), and you have no compression on that cylinder.

"You can fix this engine" if you have the time, and want to drop a few hundred dollars on parts. You do not have to remove the engine to fix it, all parts are accessible while the engine is in the vehicle.

You will need a new ($1000.00 or more), or used ($100.00 at a junk yard) cylinder head. I personally would also replace the piston on that cylinder, but I've seen it done without replacing the piston as well.

If you choose to fix this engine, I will guide you through the process, just post another comment, and we'll go from there.

Also, if you pull a cylinder head from a junk yard, try to find a vehicle that is totaled, or smashed. It just says the vehicle was running before it ended up at the junk yard, and you don't waste your time pulling another bad cylinder head. A good number of escorts are in the junk yard because of the very same issue.

Bring it to an autoshop like AutoZone or PepBoys to check it via computer scan.

Timming belt?

It is possible but stop trying to crank it. It could cause more damage than what is already done. If it is the timing belt it could bend the valves and all kind of bad stuff. Better call the tow truck and take it to the shop.

1992 honda accord running very rough and check engine light came

If the car runs fine until it warms up, then the check engine light goes on and it all goes to hell (sputtering, dying, etc...) then it is most likely the o2 sensor. Take it to autozone and have them put it on the scanner, just be sure to bring it when the check engine light is ON.

2000 Daewoo Nubira just stopped while driving!

What kind of sound did it make, While it was cutting off? Was it a loud noise if so. You might need a new timing belt and to get your valves and cylinders check. If your starter works and everything else is fine. Because I just had the same problem with my car. And its gone cost me alot of money that I dont have just to get it fix.
