Question about 1987 Dodge Ramcharger
Oh im hoping you can help.
I have an 89 dodge Ramcharger, i love my truck but its giving me gears lol..
About 2 weeks ago we drove ( in the truck) and it was fine, we turned it off went inside for a less then 10 minutes came back and it would not start. We sprayed gas into the carb and if the gas peddle was held down then it would turn over, but the peddle had to be held to the floor to remain running, let it off the floor and the truck simply sputtered and stalled out. Thus far we have changed fuel pump, and it started alright but then ran irratically, and went back to the same nonsense we started with. We put a new pressure regulator on it since after we pinched the line it seemed to run better. It will sit and Idle now for a little bit but then it quits, once you turn the key again it fires right up but then repeats the process. The injectors are clean, however there is a bit of backfire, which generally indicates to much fuel. I was thinking that the problem may be with the throttle body or perhaps the Idle control motor. Regardless I am at this point at a loss and need some insight before i start to ponder sinking alot of money into an old truck.
Thanks alot :)
Sounds like pickup coil in distributor failing after truck warms up try replacing distributor make sure you put a new cap and rotor on reman distributor good luck

What you can do to test the idle control motor, is spray some brake cleaner or other thin, clean finishing solvent on it to let it release when the gas pedal is released. it may just be getting hung up after the vehicle warms. hope this helps
