SOURCE: timing belt

a friend who just sold me a 88 honda civic 1.5ltr. and has rebuilt and upgraded the engine said that the valves wont hit the pistons due to them not being long enough. even if you go 180 out.

SOURCE: 1994 1.9 the timing belt broke.did it bend the valves.

For what it's worth, my info tells me it's a non-interference engine, so your o.k. but I will double check that & get back to you.

The timing belt snap while i was driving 2005 4 door sebring i had it towed to the shop will it run when they put the timing belt on the car

Cynthia, unfortunately the engine in your Sebring is what is called an "interference engine". When the timing belt breaks on an interference engine, the valves stop moving and the still moving pistons hit the valves that are open and bend them. This requires the removal of the cylinder head(s) to repair the damage. A fairly expensive proposition, I'm afraid.

bingo, hondas are all interference engines, (99%)

3.0L J30A1 V6 200 hp (150 kW)??????? this one?
SOHC V6

no compression on all cylinders????????? or just 1.
1: the valves were bent. at the belt snap?, (skipping 60k service !@)
2: you timed the cam wrong.
3 : The system uses the i-VTEC system to turn off one bank of cylinders under light loads
so maybe this feature is active? and you didnt check all cylinders for
compression? ???? try all 6 and post.
did you follow all steps in the FSM to do this job? y/n
or alldata.com ????

4: did you have the HLA valve lifters out. and not prime them? per FSM.
if you like this car, why not own a FSM. (or equiv)

never ever crank over any interference engine after any major work
(heads off, cam belt, change,or lost compression)
until:
1: you turn engine over by hand, sparks out.
2: then run a cyl. leak down test, first. on all 6
if not ,the 7 HP starter can in FACT bend valves.
that be Rule 1. (or $$$$$$$_)

lots of engines, to fix engines, you MUST know what you have , or its impossible to do anything, not even buy parts.

The FSM covers this.

Honda ballade 150. Cam belt broke. The camshaft and crankshaft are not at top dead center. Which do I line up first! Before putting on belt!

The crank needs to be at number one top dead center. There should be marks behind the cam gears to line them up with. remember to keep all the slack in the belt on the tensioner side of the belt as you install it!!!

The cam belt broke, how to set top dead center on crank shaft and cam shaft. If they not in line! Which to set first?

If Honda is an interference engine (which I am not sure off) you would have already done damage by cranking it over. So that being said, it really won't make a difference which one you set first. I would not take the belt off until the crankshaft is set to the timing mark. Hopefully the cam will be close at that time and when you take the belt off you will only have to turn it a little. If the marks are way off I would move the cam very easy as to not cause any damage to valves. Good luck. Please rate my answer so I get points for it.

Where is the crankshaft sensor location on lanos 2001 ? I changed my camshaft position sensor and the timing belt, but the engine light still on with the same code and the mechanic said it's the...

both the single cam and twin cam engines use the teeth on the crank pulley for crankshaft sensor which is bolted in bracket attached to block near oil pressure switch, hopefully you didnt dent(bent) teeth on crank pulley from dropping it or putting pulley down a bit roughly because they bend really eazy.
also is the crank pulley bolted up in correct position?
is the timming belt tension correct from when you did cam belt?
if tension wrong or timming out by a tooth it will set crank sensor codes, even possibly cam sensor codes and if you get timming out more than 3 teeth either way(advanced or ********) you will bend valves.
