How much should I torque my brake caliper bolts?

Because caliper bolts MUST stay on, they need a LOT of torque. AutoZone, for example, recommends 113 pound feet of torque. To put that number in perspective, the average person can, according to NASA, apply about 15 pound feet with a bare hand.

What is the torque on the banjo bolt that supplies brake fluid to the front brake calipers on a 2009 Chevy HHR - LS, equipped with front disc, rear drum brakes?

Tight enough to compress the sealing washer. Not enough to strip the threads. Some parts don't need a torque setting.

33 foot pounds is the answer.

How to change brake pad and check rotors

Brake Pads Removal & Installation Front

To Remove:

Drain brake fluid to ½ full level in reservoir.
Remove the front wheels.
Remove the front brake caliper assembly.
Remove the 2 anti-squeal shims from each of the 2 brake pads.
Remove the wear indicator from each of the 2 brake pads.

To Install:
NOTE: When replacing worn pads, the anti-squeal shims must be replaced together with the pads.

Using a large C clamp or equivalent press piston into the caliper.
Apply disc brake grease to the inside of each anti-squeal shim.
Install the anti-squeal shims on each pad.
Install the pad wear indicator clip to the pads.
Install the pads with the pad wear indicator plate facing upward.
Install the brake caliper with the 2 mounting bolts. Torque the bolts 25 ft-lb (34 Nm).
Install the front wheels.
Fill the master cylinder with new clean brake fluid.
Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the brake pads.

Rear TMC made rear brake components

TMMK made rear brake components

To Remove:

Drain the brake fluid to ½ full level in reservoir.
Remove the rear wheels.
Remove the caliper slide pins.
Remove the caliper slide pin bushings (TMMK made) (Kentucky).
Remove the rear brake calipers.
Remove the 2 brake pads with the anti-squeal shims.
Remove the anti-squeal shims and pad wear indicators from brake pads.

To Install:

Using a large C clamp or equivalent press the piston into the caliper.
Coat both sides of the outer anti-squeal shim with pad grease.
Install anti-squeal shims to each pad.
Install wear indicators on the 2 brake pads.
Install the caliper slide pin bushings (TMMK made) (Kentucky).
Install the rear brake caliper with the slide pins. Torque the slide pins as follows:
- TMC made (Japan): Torque the caliper slide pin 25 ft-lb (34.3 Nm)
- TMMK made (Kentucky): Torque the caliper slide pin 34 ft-lb (47 Nm)
Fill the master cylinder with new clean brake fluid.
Pump the brake pedal several times to seat the brake pads.
Install the rear wheels.

Brake Rotor Removal & Installation Front To Remove:

Remove the front wheels.
Remove the front brake caliper assembly.
Remove the front brake pads.
Remove the 2 bolts and caliper mounting bracket.
Place match marks on the disc and axle hub.
Remove the front wheel disc.

To Install:

Align the match marks and install the front disc.
Install the brake caliper mounting bracket. Torque the bolts 79 ft-lb (107 Nm).
Install the brake caliper. Torque the bolts 25 ft-lb (34 Nm).
Install new gaskets and connect the brake hose to the caliper with the banjo fitting bolt. Torque the fitting bolt 22 ft-lb (29.4 Nm).
Fill the reservoir with brake fluid.
Bleed the brake system.
Install the front wheel.

Rear To Remove:

Remove the rear wheels.
Remove the brake caliper assembly.
Remove the brake pads.
Remove the 2 bolts and the caliper mounting bracket.
Place match marks on the disc and axle hub.
Remove the rear disc.

To Install:

Align the match marks and install the rear disc.
Install the rear brake caliper mounting bracket. Torque the bracket bolts as follows:
- TMC made (Japan): Torque the bracket bolt 46 ft-lb (61.8 Nm)
- TMMK made (Kentucky): Torque the bracket bolt 34 ft-lb (47 Nm)
Install the rear brake caliper with the slide pins. Torque the slide pins as follows:
- TMC made (Japan): Torque the caliper slide pin 25 ft-lb (34.3 Nm)
- TMMK made (Kentucky): Torque the caliper slide pin 32 ft-lb (43 Nm)
Install new gaskets and connect the brake hose to the caliper with the banjo fitting bolt. Torque the fitting bolt 22 ft-lb (29.4 Nm).
Fill the reservoir with brake fluid.
Bleed the brake system.
Install the rear wheel

What are the torque specs. for the caliper mounting bolts on 06 chevy equinox 3.4 2wd

2010-2017 Equinox

FRONT brake caliper BRACKET bolts Torque is 140 FT/LB and Caliper to the bracket is only 20 FT/LB.

REAR brake caliper BRACKET bolts Torque is 92 FT/LB and Caliper to the bracket is 20 FT/LB.

Remember rear bracket torque is different so don't forget as many DIY mechs snap that rear bracket bolt.

Use Thread Lock on caliper BRACKET Bolts.
