Your fuel gauge (float) is part of your fuel pump in your tank. It is a solid unit, and has to be replaced as a whole unit.

2003 Impala fuel gauge used to bounce and now stays at full. When tank is empty, gauge shows 1/2-3/4 full. How to fix?

most of the time this is simply just the float in the gas tank getting stuck had the same problem in my car. unfortunately you have to access the gas tank to fix, but it is an easy fix. hope this helps any questions let me know.

MY GAS GAGE IS NOT WORKING GAS LIGHT STAYS ON ALL TIME

Your sending unit in your fuel tank is shot more then likely but also could be gauge. I would be more on fuel tank sender. It shows you fuel tank as being empty which would make your fuel light stay on. The unfortunate thing is that you have to drop the tank and install a new fuel sender which without having it on a hoist is rather rough.

Fuel gauge on 1993 Dodge Dakota V8

Definitely the gauge can be changed, provided the float in the fuel tank is OK, i.e. no leaks. This float connects to a potentiometer which records the current flowing thru it and displays it in the gauge. So before replacing the gauge measure the current and match that against the quantity of fuel in the tank...............sodeep

Gas gauge not working on 94 dodge dakota

it sounds like the gauge float assembly in the top of the tank has gone bad. But before you change it I would look at all of your electrical connections and make sure that they all are properly grounded for that circuit.

Gas Gauge Trouble

yes the most likly cause is that the fuel level sensor is faulty i would put a gas can in the back and go for a drive the a shop and have them check it. but i think if the truck wont take any more fuel it will be a faulty fuel level sensor.

I had a similar problem only I was lucky enough that my gas gauge started working after it got lower than a 1/2 tank. It ended up being the float inside the tank. I ended up paying around $90 for the fuel float and it started reading the gas level correctly. But after 2 weeks and some severe cold weather, my engine wouldn't recieve any gas, ended up being the fuel pump. In buying the new fuel pump, along came a new float attached. So if your planning on replacing the float, go ahead and replace the whole pump, it will save you time, money, and hassle after its all over with.
