Question about 2001 BMW 5 Series
Front wipers suddenly stopped working and are stuck across the screen. Figured out it was probably the wiper motor so have got a quote for £35 for new one, whihc I'll get a mechanic to replace. Just 2 questions:
Will i need anew linkage as well?
Are there any other reasons for the problem that i should check first?
Good afternoon Ally,
You shouldn't have to replace the linkage if its just the motor that has failed. But before you replace the motor check to make sure that its not something as simple as a blown fuse or a relay (which it regularly is). A fuse is only a couple of pense and hopefully this will save you the 35 and the mechanics costs.

To correclty diagnose this system, you need to get access to a wiring diagram for the wipers. Considering you dont know what a relay looks like, I would take it to the dealer. Its a more complicated system than you think. expecially if it has a rain light sensor on the windshield. There are many module involved such as the DSC control unit and the General module.
