Question about 1999 Dodge Dakota

P Code 1763

The check engine came on, retreiveing a P code of 1763 which has to do with the Governor Pressure Sensor input is too high. What is causing the Governor Pressure Sensor input tp be too high?

    The Dakoto is my Grands Sons, I question him on what was happing prior the the chech engine light came on. He eplained that as he was going up a slight grade the truck acted like it dropped out of gear, he let up on the gas and the trans seemed to reingage. He siad the this type of thing happed maybe 4 times before the 1763 code popped up.

From what I can gather, there may be a technical service bulletin on that if you visit your dealer before you go to expense of having it diagnosed and repaired elsewhere.

    Yes, a transmission valve body problem that Chrysler has a bulletin on.

testing the solonoid and sensor isnt a problem ,the solonoid just run a feed wire from battery to it and it should click ,the sensor is another question and would help if i knew what type of sensor it was,i do have a haynes manual but its about as much use as a used tea bag the manual just says consult the dealer --

P1763 - Governor Pressure Sensor Voltage Too High

This code is refer for the governor pressure sensor which is located in the valve body of the transmission. If getting power to the sensor and the wires are not open or shorted then the sensor will need to be replaced.

GOVERNOR SOLENOID AND PRESSURE SENSOR
REMOVAL

Hoist and support vehicle on safety stands.
Remove transmission fluid pan and filter.
Disengage wire connectors from pressure sensor and solenoid (see picture)
Remove screws holding pressure solenoid retainer to governor body.
Separate solenoid retainer from governor (see picture)
Pull solenoid from governor body
Pull pressure sensor from governor body.
Remove bolts holding governor body to valve body.
Separate governor body from valve body
Remove governor body gasket.

INSTALLATION
Before installing the pressure sensor and solenoid in the governor body, replace O-ring seals, clean the gasket surfaces and replace gasket.

Place gasket in position on back of governor body
Place governor body in position on valve body.
Install bolts to hold governor body to valve body.
Lubricate O-ring on pressure sensor with transmission fluid.
Align pressure sensor to bore in governor body.
Push pressure sensor into governor body.
Lubricate O-ring, on pressure solenoid, with transmission fluid.
Align pressure solenoid to bore in governor body
Push solenoid into governor body.
Place solenoid retainer in position on governor
Install screws to hold pressure solenoid retainer to governor body.
Engage wire connectors into pressure sensor and solenoid Install transmission fluid pan and (new) filter.
Lower vehicle and road test to verify repair.

What does code p1757 means?


Its a transmission code for the governor, the exact code description is " Governor pressure above 3psi in gear with MPH 0.
Either an input or output speed sensor is malfunctioning or the governor, governors go a lot on those transmissions.

P1762 - Governor Press Sensor Offset Volts too LOW or too High
Circuit is monitored continuously while ignition is on and engine is running. DTC sets if the governor pressure is out of range in Park or Neutral for 1.3 seconds. The test must fail 3 times to set DTC.
The following items may be the area of concern:
  • Solenoid pack connector 5-volt supply circuit open or shorted to ground.
  • Defective PCM.
  • Wiring harness and/or connectors defective.
  • Governor pressure sensor wiring harness and/or connectors defective.
  • Governor pressure sensor ground circuit open.
  • Transmission fluid burnt or oil pan contains excessive debris.

dont know lots about this witout engine size but some have 1 coil per cylender possible coil is bad or plug 02 sensor will cause some problems but a miss fire will cause it to run like trash
